jefequeso: I honestly don't think I've ever been this excited after seeing a trailer before. ROTT is bar none my favorite pre-Doom FPS, and I never EVER thought there would be a remake. And it looks like this one's going to be pretty darn true to the original. I think this one will be a day 1 buy. Possibly even an hour 1 buy :3.

Fenixp: Right? When there were shots of gloomy castles and prisons, I was preparing myself for the inevitable facepalm. And then I've seen soldier begging for mercy, and traps, and jumpplates, and rocketjump, and generaly big ammount of win.
Even if there are iron sights, it looks like they're at least going to get the core of the game right. I mean, hell... they seem to even have the collectibles still intact!
Well thats great news, a pleasant surprise! :)
This puts the originals a lot higher on my GOG "to buy" list.
Eh, the trailer makes it look like the gameplay will be a downgrade from the original. The graphics look better, but that isn't enough to make me want to play it.

how so?
Well fuck me, this looks like it may actually be a decent remake! Everything looks solid and I could care less about the iron sights. I mean, look at the run speed! <3

Just please, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE no health regen!
Guess I will have to play the original now.

I hope the multiplayer is good.

DOOM came out at least a year before RotT. :/

I'm surprised about the excitement. I found RotT gimmicky (ludicrous gibs, dog mode, begging for mercy, bounce pads, christmas easter egg, etc) and unable to escape its Wolf3D legacy.
So, when are they re-making TekWar?

Or better yet, NAM and World War II GI.

Gersen: I have to admit my biggest surprise in this news is that Apogee is still alive, I thought they gone under around the same time 3D Realms did.
Apogee is 3d Realms, 3d Realms was the name they published their 3d titles under.

They went bankrupt, and their employees were mostly laid-off, however, they did retain rights to most of their IP as far as I can tell, and they've still been selling games via their web store, so they probably still have income coming in.

EDIT: Or somebody has money coming in, I'm not sure who assumed control when the rest of the company shut down.

SCPM: Hmm, so it's being developed by Interceptor Entertainment. And aren't the Apogee games on GOG actually by the company that bought the rights to the Apogee name, and not by the original team?
http://www.apogeesoftware.com/
as opposed to
http://www.3drealms.com/
Apogee is 3D Realms, or at least was until recently, I'm not sure if that's still the case. That may have changed due to bankruptcy proceedings, but Apogee Software was their official name from beginning to the end.

If this is Steam only, I think we can forget ever being able to play it here in Germany.

Why? ROTT was going to be Wolf 3D 2, but I thought all the Nazi stuff had been stripped out of ROTT.

I'm sure I'm missing something as I haven't played the game in years.

The original ROTT is indexed here, and I think it still is to this day. Of course, it's still available "under the counter" from secondhand stores, but the actual marketing of it is forbidden.

It's a different case altogether with Steam, where games that are indexed (and this almost certainly will be) are just pulled from the storefront altogether and either only a censored version is available or German users are left in the lurch.

That, and with the new anti-IP spoofing provision in the SSA, means that anyone in Germany with this game runs the risk of having their account closed down.

It's to do with the violence, not the swastikas.

Seems kind of odd considering the other games that are available, but whatever, indexing games is always weird. I wasn't sure if I had forgotten about some of the Wolf assets that may have been left in the game.

Its looks like a downgrade... I would love to know how you came to that conclusion.
