I'm pretty interested in the remake, even though I never had a chance to play the orginal... Should I buy it? The reviews seem to be somewhat mixed.

It's not a review.

I think he was referring to reviews for the first game and whether or not he should get it.

As for whether you should get the original, it is here on GOG at only $5.99, so not that much really. It doesn't have all the bells and whistles of modern games, but it does have the whole fast paced action, unrealistic weapons and those old school find key, find door puzzles. So, if you are interested in those kinds of games then you might enjoy it.

ne_zavarj: I don't care about the multiplayer part of the game .
They talk about singleplayer as well in the video, and it shows the goal devs are trying to achieve quite nicely. Really what's the difference if you're going to watch gameplay in SP or MP - it's not really you playing it anyway.

That's precisely what I had in mind.

There's no school like old school when it comes to first person shooters. :)
How does it compare to Blood or Duke 3D (which I absolutely love)?

In a straight up comparison, I actually prefer Blood and Duke3D to ROTT. The BUILD engine is superior to the heavily modified Wolf3D engine that ROTT uses. Don't go expecting a wide variety of graphical assets as ROTT is more about the puzzles of the maps themselves, and with ludicrous gibs from the rocket and grenade launchers. Some of what is in ROTT is just plain silly, like the bounce pads and dog mode.

Best advice if you want to be sure is to download the shareware version, though you'll need to set up either DOSBox or WinRoTT/GLRoTT in order to play it.

I'll try the shareware version out for sure. Thank you for the elaborate answer.
Dog mode might be silly but I still save and load a few times when there is a random pickup to ensure I get it or god mode. Dog mode is just too much fun
Some more multiplayer footage.

I like this news:
"no matter where you buy the game, you’ll be able to dive into the game’s pulse-pounding multiplayer modes with everyone else, engage in cross-platform chat and more."

Can't wait to get this!

Edit: Also, I didn't know Green Man Gaming sells GOG codes, or is it only for this game so far?

According to the developer, it's going to be $14.99. It's going to be a great summer :p
And they will also release free DLC's of new weapons they didn't include to remain fidel to the orginal.
When I first saw the trailer I thought it was going to be another shitty try to get money, but the free updates and the GOG support have changed my mind. So pre-purchase on GoG!
Also, a rumour is they will give away good old rott keys to pre-purchases.
Hmmm, I don't like the fact that the game uses Unreal Engine 3. It makes it look too similar to Unreal Tournament 3 and I'm sick of this damn engine.Oh well, at least it seems to be a fast-paced FPS, so it's better than nothing
