Dinasis: Probably won't go very far if at all, but if there's enough noise, maybe they'll explore a GOG.com version, if not for Rise of Nations, maybe in time for Rise of Legends.

I just sent them an e-mail. ;) It's probably Microsoft's call, but we got Shadowrun Returns here eventually, so you never know!

Thanks for the support! While I'm at it, I think I'm going to go beg GOG.com to try working things from their end as well...
It's odd that Microsoft has put more effort into games for Steam in 2 years than those that put in (games for) Games for Windows – Live throughout its existence.

My guess is that has a lot to do with who is in charge now. I think I remember reading about one of the big wigs at Valve leaving to become a head honcho at MS's gaming division, or whatever it's called.

When he saw the enthusiasm for the PC Gaming of Microsoft, he knew what he had to do...

Ah, well you're ahead of me then. ;) I can't say that I find it shocking. I'm actually a little more surprised that he went there to begin with. That and surprised that MS hired him. Not because of him, but because of their history, as you pointed out in your prior post.

Will someone tell M$ that GOG has a bunch of people who are extremely willing to get backup copies of the aging boxed copies they have DRM-free?
And this good old game is not on GOG why?

Microsoft, probably. I bought the gold version for $3 at a second hand store last week, bloody fun game.

IronArcturus: Rise of Nations - I've always wanted to try this game. It looks like a really cool RTS game!

JohnnyDollar: JFYI, this Gold Edition published by Ubisoft from Amazon has no DRM or CD check. It has a registry dependency, but that's no big deal.
Not that its game breaking or anything but I have a copy of this and for whatever reason RON without the expansion apparently reports itself as version 0 so its basically incompatible with other retail copies unless you patch it to a different version. Pretty sure from memory that the expansion isn't patched to the latest version either. Neither are game breaking or stop it being a fantastic game that works just fine its just something I noticed.

I guess its good that the game isn't forgotten but yet another Microsoft RTS is being published on steam which I will continue using the retail version because as far as I'm concerned its superior.
Given that RON is already in HD I wonder if they will fix it so that HD means that it increases the horizontal instead of decreasing the vertical like it currently does.

I'll be getting this on a sale. Ever since I played Rise of Legends I've wanted to try the "original" since I like RoL.
Oh and I wouldn't mind a graphically enhanced version of RoL.

And lastly I'd really rather have this here than on steam.
I see that it's now available. Anyone played the Extended Edition yet? What are your thoughts?
