A free spirit, great thinker and an amazing writer. He will be missed.
Two days of national mourrning were declared earlier today.
Condolences to his family and friends.

Never heard of him, but from what I read he sounds like the Layne Staley of literature and free thinking. R.I.P.

He was a great thinker, and the only portuguese-speaking writer to win a Nobel Prize. I don't know much about Layne Staley though, so I can't compare both guys.
Have you never heard of his book "Blindness"? There's even a movie for it by Fernando Meirelles, watch it if you don't like reading books. ;)
