So I bought Rift on Steam about a year ago (not entirely sure when, but around then), tried it for 5 minutes, decided it was complete crap, hit the "unsubscribe and don't charge me for this shit again when the subscription runs out" button, and forgot about it. A few months later, I got charged again. I sent them an angry email, and got the standard robotic autoresponse linking me to the unsubscribe page and telling me to do that to avoid continually getting charged (as if I hadn't already). I did it, again. Each time I did it, I received no confirmation, but as there seemed to be no way of talking to a human being about it, I just figured it would sort itself out eventually.

Today I got charged again. I think the total is something like $150 now, for a piece of shit game that I played for 5 mins, and that's not even including the initial purchase price. It seems there is no way for me to successfully unsubscribe, and Paypal won't let me dispute the transaction unless I can show them confirmation that I unsubscribed, which they won't give me. So, it looks like I'm stuck paying $65 once every few months for the foreseeable future for a crap game that I don't even play. They even had the nerve to send me a closed beta invite to a new shit game that i don't want to play, presumably so they can charge me for that for the rest of my life too.

Buyer beware.

Handling in what sense? I went to the my account page, and attempted to remove the subscription and billing information. I agree that they can't be doing it to everyone, but the facts are exactly as I stated them. Honestly I'm only posting about it in the vague hope that it might lead them to get a real human being to contact me so I can solve the issue. I don't know what else I can do about it.

There might be a second confirmation you are not clicking, or a thing about when you cancel or who knows what. I never played the game and can't say, just saying maybe triple check the page and ask an English native speaker to look at it if you are not one.

Talk to your bank, they should sort this out if you cannot do it through the website.

What an awful situation. I hope you can get this resolved asap. I might be in the minority here, but I actually liked it. My problem is my finance's took a big shit a while back, so MMO's were the first thing to go. Good luck getting this resolved.

In order to avoid future charges you should be able to unsubscribe from your Paypal account. Disputing is for trying to take back the money you already paid.

The bank is not able to help you, only by totally denying Paypal transactions which I don't think is what you want.

This is obviously illegal. If you have any E-Mail confirmation from the cancelling of the subscription you can demand the money back. Notify your bank ASAP to stop any withdrawals from that company.

Thanks, taking it up with paypal sounds like good advice. I don't care about getting the money back, I just want it to stop. I did try dealing with my Cambodian bank, but they were completely useless. After getting me to spend 20 minutes explaining what an MMO, they told me the transaction was nothing to do with them as they can only see that it went to paypal and don't know or care what happens after that.
All I have is my email to them from months ago explaining that I'd tried to cancel my account, that I was still getting billed, and asking what I could do about it. All I got in response was what seemed like an automated reply telling me to cancel my account...

All subscriptions are listed in your Paypal account and you can easily unsubscribe. Just dig into your account. If you can't manage to find the subscriptions section then contact Paypal support and explain them what you want to do.

Maybe you've tried this already, but sometimes browser settings mess up with pages like this and using a different browser could make a difference.

Since you've managed to unsubscribe successfully, could you share if you got a confirmation page or email? If yes, then the procedure is not completing correctly for MonstaMunch.

Interestingly, after checking and double checking both my inbox and my spam folder, Rift/Trion didn't even email me to tell me that they'd charged me. I only found out about it from the notification email paypal sent me. Is that normal, for gaming companies to charge you without even emailing you a receipt or something?

I wish I'd found Path of Exile sooner, then this would never have happened.

Edit: Paypal now clearly shows that I've just cancelled it on their side, and it says I'll have to set something up if I want to pay those guys again, which clearly I won't, so I guess the situation is solved. Thanks again for all the advice, I appreciate it.
