I'm eager to hear more on this since it has enormous potential :D

It's going to suck.
That's what I think.
Bladrunner is a 1 off cult movie well ahead of its time on release. One of the greatest classic scfi films ever and that how it should stay a one off.

A second movie will only pollute the original and i think if they make it they will kill the feel of the original.

I am worried about that, but hope it will be good because of Ridley Scott :)
A new "Ridley Scott movie" , sounds interesting , let's hope that he has not lost his touch....
I'll be ever ever so shocked if they can even mange to come close to capturing the same emotion and visual appeal of the first film in the sequal. Heck the dark gritty type filming does not really exist anymore (oh they can do dark ,but its that clean, shiny dark of CGI and digital appearing shots not that filmy appeal that the original had).

Plus its been so long that everyone will argue about the possible story plot directions, plus a big part of the enjoyment and cult of the film is its rather open ending as to the full details; a second film that might give an answer would take soo much away from the enjoyment of the original.

I wish him the best of luck making the film and I hope he can do the magic that is needed, but I'm highly doubtful
I'm an optimist in such cases : )

I love Fallout 1&2, Mafia 1, Deus Ex, Thief 1&2, Gothic 2: NotR...
...and I hate Fallout 3, Mafia 2, DE:IW, Thief 3, Gothic 4.

But I never think that it's pointless to produce sequels.
If someone is willing to put $$$ into it, let them do it and wish them luck!

I don't think that sequels affect their predecessor.

There's always a chance, that producers will create another masterpiece.
Without people believing in what they do and willing to risk their money, art is dead.

Very skeptical about this. I am afraid it will be kind of like the last Sherlock Holmes movie. Entertaining, but nothing really to do with the original.
I hope they crossover with The Good Wife.

The one by Asylum, with mechanical raptors, a steam mecha dragon and the Iron Man?
As far as I know PKD only wrote one book in that specific setting. Lets make some new Lord of the Rings movies too. Why limit hollywood to what the authors actually wrote?
The beauty of Blade Runner "trilogy" ( DADoES book, movie, game) is that they share only a few basic ideas and mostly ignore each others plot.
Trying to make a sequel or prequel now simply wouldn't work. Even at the time its vision of the future was outdated (even if it was leagues ahead of the book in that regard). Artistically he'd have been better off producing some sci-fi that had that Blade Runner vibe whilst at the same time leaving that film's universe untapped and unaltered.

But yes, this is Hollywood. So what does artistic value matter?
It could be good but several conditions must be met:
It can't have the same characters, that would cross-pollute and reduce the quality of both storylines.

It should explore the universe, which is the interesting part. Like when the Blade Runners were first established to chase down the replicants, or a story following a group of escaped replicants.
They should do a prequel. Say, about eight years before. Which would be, let's see here, oh, 2011. Discovering the first iterations of replicants were actually Twitter bots. I'd see that.
