I think if people are smart enough to find this site (it's not exactly McDonald's), they're smart enough to only take the fair reviews into consideration. I don't think they will affect sales one bit, when the average rating is so much higher than that one special review. Average rating will never be accurate anyway, but at least it'll be closer to the truth, thus rendering a single one-star review out of nine five-star reviews quite pointless. All it does is making the reviewer him/herself look stupid.

People read reviews? I thought everyone just looked at the score and the pretty pictures between all the text.
I'm elated at such a problem because it at least means someone is reading them.

Personally I only read reviews for the sake of getting information about the gameplay, while finding videos of it, so I can better understand the game, since a lot of games don't have demos. If I like what I read and see about the gameplay, I might consider it, because I don't find any arbitrary number, no matter how it's been chosen, to be a good reason to look anymore into it.

censorship is bad, but there has to be moderation.
otherwise why don't we all just sit around cursing all day, saying nothing with any point..
There is some hate speech, and personal threat type of things that need to be moderated. And also, complaining about the price or distribution is fine but the review area is not the correct place to do so.

While having only high-quality reviews would certainly be nice, pruning out what someone determines to be low-quality reviews creates a larger problem than it solves- namely that the entire review system becomes suspect, as once it is established that reviews will be pruned based on content there will always be questions of just how far this pruning goes, and to what extent we're actually seeing people's opinions of a game. Even if nothing improper is occurring, simply the established potential for it can make the review system highly suspect.
So while it may be annoying to see people rating games on silly issues, or simply writing very low quality reviews, I'd say it's best to just put up with it and hope that most people looking through the reviews are willing to take the 10 seconds it takes to read why someone gave the game the rating they did, as the cure proposed is simply worse than the disease.

I read reviews - most all of the decently written ones if I'm interested in a game I don't know much about.
The score in itself is meaningless for me, but information about gameplay is much more useful.

Then where would people complain about it? I always think of reviews as product reviews and if the price and distribution figure into that it's a legitimate point. However, if the review is only about that and ignores the content then there is a problem.
