Oh man I always wanted a N64 so bad! hmm or perhaps I'm thinking of the dreamcast :P
I bought a couple of old PS2's.
Bought them solely to play Gran Turismo 3 and 4.

I had a cousin willing to sell me his N64 and his games for around $30 in 2004, but for some reason I didn't get it.
Well, i got a Saturn, a Dreamcast and an Atari 2600 after they were discontinued.

I really want a Saturn, I've also kicked around the idea of a Magnavox Odyssey 2.
I don't understand the rules. So, does buying a PS3 in 2013 as a Pole count?
Probably about 8 years ago I bought a Sega Megadrive (Sega Genesis). I then spent months on Ebay looking for games, buying them cheap, etc. I spent a fair bit of time playing games as well. It was wonderful.

Sadly my social life picked up and then I didn't have time to play anymore. I moved house about 3 years ago, unpacked and plugged in the Megadrive, haven't played it once. Sad Face.

Sorry, I shall try to explain the rules better. What I meant was if a console has lost its market relevance, for instance I brought up the 360 because by 2010 the PS3 started to actually pick up a lot of steam in Japan and the Xbox 360 never had a significant presence in the Japanese console market with the PS3, PSP, DS, and Wii already a lot more popular and the attempts by Microsoft to popularize the console there failed like Infinite Undiscovery and the plethora of other rushed Microsoft funded JRPGs led to the Xbox 360 not really having any market relevance at that point. The Saturn became irrelevant in America in 1999 because the N64 and the Playstation were far more culturally significant over here, however, Sega actually had a decent share of the market in Japan around that time and still released quality games on it even after the launch of the Dreamcast. Thus bringing me back to my original point that if an American for instance bought a Saturn in 1999 he would pretty much be only buying games which have already come out, there may be more games that come out after that, but the market relevance is gone because of the Dreamcast being out and more popular in America at that time. Sorry for the confusion, hopefully the explanation was helpful, sorry if it's a wee long.

No, the PS4 did not come out in Europe yet and as far as I know the Xbox 360 did not dominate the European market to the point of driving the PS3 into irrelevancy at that point, but I also don't live there so if you would like to counter that point I will gladly listen.

A Saturn is pretty cheap nowadays (a complete console with the box and manuals is a bit more expensive, but not that much). However, some games are quite expensive, especially JRPGs (stuff like Panzer Dragoon Saga and Shining Force, for example).

Yeah, especially considering the games I'd mostly want on it would be the Japanese games like Shining Force, Sakura Taisen, Super Robot Taisen, and Darkstalkers/Vampire Hunter I kinda shy away from the idea. Also there are some VNs on there I'd like. But first I really have to improve my Japanese before I can really play any of those games outside of the fighters. Thus there's a lot of time and money investment that I sometimes feel somewhat intimidated by and just kinda put my desire outta my mind.

Well, if you do understand japanese, then price is not really a problem. The japanese versions of these games are much cheaper and easier to find than the american ones. The Saturn did well in Japan, so there are many used copies around at decent prices.

Just a wee little bit honestly, I never took classes. I mostly read katakana and hiragana and a puny amount of kanji, it's enough to sometimes say, "Hey, I almost understood that," but not much else. However, I'll try to get a Saturn this summer regardless of my Japanese ability.

Besides it's got some of the coolest looking controllers, I've been wanting to hold those since the first time I saw them.

I bought a Sega Genesis a few months ago, but I only have a couple games for it so far. Would like to have an NES again sometime, too.

I'm pretty sure I bought my third copy of Gran Turisomo 4 for the Playstation 2 a few months ago, great game.

On topic: I'll consider buying a Xbox 360 and a Ps3 in maybe a year when the prices get as low as they're going to for new/unopened ones, I never did upgrade to the Xbox 360 or the Ps3. Has anybody had any luck buying new/unopened consoles like the original Playstation for a reasonable price?
I've been pondering whether to pick up an old SNES for a while now, but the whole battery-save system of these old cartridges always seemed like too much hassle for me since I figure all of those would need to be replaced.
