Saw this yesterday and thought it was pretty interesting, particularly their comments on GoG.

http://retrocityrampage.com/casestudy2014.php

Here is the relevant quote:

GOG sales relative to Steam seem to vary widely for developers. Some games move a small fraction of their units on GOG while others move a very worthwhile percentage. Store promotion surprisingly doesn't seem to be the strongest factor here, but rather that the GOG customer base is more akin to certain types of games and genres. In RCR's case, GOG accounts for 6.7% of its PC sales, with Steam being 80.5%
not bad
Retro City Rampage had sold over 400,000 paid units.

From the Paid Units Graph I see that 48-49% are PC sales (more or less, but what the hell). 48% = 192.000 copies.

GOG accounts for 6.7% of its PC sales, with Steam being 80.5%.

Retro City Rampage is curently on the 403 place in the Best Selling List. 6,7% means 12.864 copies sold on GOG.

This is quite good. Every game above Retro City Rampage sold 12.000 copies or more?!
Was Retro City Rampage released day 1 here at GOG?

I personally own the game on GOG and PSN.

By the way, gotta love how the PSN version isn't a free upgrade to DX, I can only guess that's Sony's greed hands in it, not wanting to host anything free. Not only is it not free, but it's full price with no upgrade path, it's funny how a big company like Sony's PSN service is trumped by a smaller company like GOG. Gotta love GOG! :D

No, the bestseller list is just about last year's sales. So it's possible that Retro City Rampage just sold few copies within the last 12 months, but a game like X-Wing (which should be somewhere between place 150 and 200) for example sold less in total.

Yup. 9 October 2012.

I found the comment about promotions (how they don't seem to have as much effect here) pretty fascinating. Perhaps this title is an outlier, but usually promotions draw new users to the service but it doesn't seem to be the case unless it's a huge name like the Lucasarts titles.

Also I didn't quote it but he also said that Humble and GoG are pretty much on equal ground (or close to it). If I'm GoG that's a bigger deal to me than anything else.

That's been the case for a while, though the Shovel Knight figures are what really brought it out (though in that case, they didn't feature GOG as much). It's kind of funny if you think about it, as their website is REALLY primitive - the account page still loads everything by order every time you open it, and individual store pages didn't exist until a week or two ago and used to be lightbox-ish popup windows.

Their bundles help draw people to the store, and the store not only offers the DRM-free versions, but also the Steam key, the android app, and in some cases even a browser version all for one price. Humble in general has recently been pushing the store more, and I'm sure GOG is very aware of the situation.

Do you have more info on that? I was always under impression that Best Seller List is an All Time Best Seller List. And I'm not the only one who thinks that.
