I am sad to report Harold Ramis, also known as Egon from Ghostbusters has passed away due to complications from immune system based health issues. :( It seems all the good ones are dropping like flies this year.

Did he do anything besides Ghostbusters?

Damn. Another one to go. He directed Caddyshack, National Lampoon's Vacation, Groundhog Day and Analyze This. Not the most prolific director, but pretty good movies.

I was going to thread this news when I heard about it a few hours ago but it was just too depressing. This really hurts.

My apologies, I've been on the internet for so long that I tend to assume everybody is telling me to RTFM.
It's not a friendly place for the most part and I'm sorry it has made me a bit hostile and paranoid. Thank you, that is what I was hoping for.

When I first saw Groundhog Day, I hated it, thought it was dumb and really did not get it. But in the intervening years I've seen it maybe 4-5 times...it took a while but now I get the message. Well I try to "be" the message but frequently fail ;-p

I was just saying recently that the way Dan Ackroyd and Bill Murray are back and forth with Ghostbusters 3, the old team will end up dying of old age before they get to it. A sentiment that I may now come to regret. I'm glad he and Bill Murray managed to sort their differences in time though.

Although he was actually more well-established as a writer-director, he'll always be Egon to me.

My condolences to Harold's family.
