Don't get me wrong, I like all kinds of metal music, and Swedish made a hell lot of good ones, but there's only one TRVE home of black metal, and it's in Norway :P

Stockholm's Old Town is a must-see. So beautiful. Stockholm city in general is a great place for just walking around and taking in the sights. I can't honestly recommend anything in Gothenburg, though. I realise that having lived here my entire life, I might just be used to the place, but Gothenburg just isn't a very interesting place. I'm trying really, really hard to come up with something, anything, that I might consider interesting and just find myself drawing a blank. I guess... Avenyn? It's one of the few places in Gothenburg that's built to look interesting. It's a fairly long street with a number of expensive restaurants on it and a museum on one end. There are also a couple of neighbourhoods that are fairly nice to walk around in and that tourists seem to like, but, er, I kinda suck at the geography around here. How embarrassing.

I'm sure someone with more enthusiasm for Gothenburg can help you there.

I don't think you need to worry overmuch about manners and the like. Last I checked, we're pretty close culturally, and you'll pick up on the subtleties soon enough. Oh, yeah, we generally don't tip around here - it's a nice gesture, and it might be expected at really fancy restaurants, but nobody expects you to do it.

Remember that traffic drives on the right here. The first time you look the wrong way when crossing the street is a frightening experience... actually, it's always frightening.

What's the general stance on small talk, by the way? The vast majority of Finns shut up unless they have something to say (so no pointless blabbering about the weather or whatever); hence strangers who come up to talk to someone in Finland are automatically assumed to be drunk or lost or something. This is something that some Anglo-Americans seem to find a bit difficult to understand.

Just be friendly and maybe learn a few Swedish words even though most Swedes know English. People appreciate it when you know a little bit of their language.
