Today I discovered ResidualVM. It seems awesome. However...

1) It doesn't seem to work for Escape From Monkey Island at all yet? The normal release doesn't find it at all and the daily beta version find it but says there are missing files and doesn't load, even though I directly copied all files off the CD.

2) Does Grim Fandango have any serious issues? I have actually never played the game before and am eager to do so. Is it okay to play it in ResidualVM?

Thanks.
1. Last I checked, its barely half finished with being fully supported. It doesn't seem to be a big concern to get it running in ResidualVM.

2. This emulator was MADE for Grim Fandango, as far as I can tell and have heard it does it perfectly.

Maybe this is an alternative for you http://quickandeasysoftware.net/software/escape-from-monkey-island-setup

It also has such an installer for Grim Fandango, i find both work.

Thanks for that, but I got rid of the discs a long time ago. No more discs in my house! I copied them before getting rid of them though, so I would have the files. That launcher requires the actual disc though. Arg.

Make ISO files (unless that's what you already have) and mount them with VirtualCloneDrive?

might do, unless perhaps it requires a cd label.

Yeah maybe I'll try. Seems techy for me though. I would hope they will eventually support the files in ResidualVM?

The thing is, it is not an emulator. It is a program that remakes the engines for multiple games, including Myst 3. and of course, Grim Fandango. It is done that way for maximum compatibility and performance. Not only that, it will be supporting other games as well. Just a little correction. Nothing to worry about.

Install (to make an ISO image), and [url=http://www.slysoft.com/en/virtual-clonedrive.html]Virtual CloneDrive (to have Windows believe it is an actual drive).

Make an image with ImgBurn.
Mount the image using Virtual CloneDrive.

That should be enough to fool the Monkey Island Setup, unless it uses idiocy like checking the CD label.

Thanks, that was actually really easy. Game works well too. Still hope it's supported on ResidualVM soon though, for easier use and backup.
I just wanted to say that I played Grim Fandango on my Windows Vista 64bits without any major problems. I installed it with the setup from quickandeasysoftware (link from a post above) and had to made some tests to find the perfect configuration.

I think I had to enable Windows XP compatibility, set the processor affinity to 1 cpu and run it in fullscreen (windowed had issues with audio). The only problem I had was that sometimes (i.e. 3-4 times for the whole game) animations seemed off (too fast, looped...).

So you should maybe first to run it directly.

Everything I am googling says ResidualVM is a good way to play Grim, so I'll probably stick with that. Escape from MI is another story though, even if you get Residual to launch it I guess it only plays cutscenes, not gameplay. It's on Residual's website as the next big todo thing though, so hopefully it works someday.
Something to check out for Grim Fandango, after your first playthrough:

A fan recently made a ResidualVM mod that turns Grim into a point & click interface instead of the tank controls it currently uses.
