They're different games. Amnesia is an ambient sort of horror game, the REmake is more of a "game" sort of horror game. I personally prefer RE to Amnesia, but Amnesia is a VERY solid piece of horror.

That's debatable. Amnesia has a pretty fluid control scheme for most everyone, while RE's does not. Yes, I think that people blow it completely out of proportion. It didn't take me long at all to get used to the "tank controls" and fixed camera, and I still think they fit the game perfectly well. But many people find the controls to be a significant barrier. So just in terms of how accessible they are, Amnesia's controls win out.

I still today think fixed camara is superior, but I will admit shoud I chose between First Person or Over the Shoulder for Horror Games....First Person.

There was guy with a mini-gun in 4, and it was a boss type creature as I recall. I thought it kind of fit the mood anyway, mostly because it wasn't trying to flank me while people bellowed in my ear that Bravo Team needed to secure the objective.

I didn't play 5, but I would have thought it was moronic and stupid there too.

Its a sad day were I cannot believe I would say that RE5 is better than 6.

Mostly because of the Lost in Nightmares level.

Why do you think it's superior? It offered the opportunity for some neat camera angles, but otherwise I'd argue that first person is almost always a better choice.

Because it adds to the suspense and atmosphere and the Angled in ways that makes it horrifying and memorable like look at this picture from Alone in the Dark:

And sometimes the fear of "oh there is monster on the other side of the camara, but I am too scared to go see it", and restricting the Character adds more to the horror, give him to much Freedom of movement makes it too easy, I could just easily headshot every monster.

Before you ask, "well than balance the game, make monsters more tougher and dodge your shots" than that will be no different than action games.

I really dislike the older games (controls, camera, yada-yada-yada), really loved RE4, and found RE5 oky but disappointing after the 4th.

I also know people who would argue, that Resident Evil never was a survival horror series anyways.

The reason why I love Resident Evil 4 so much, is because even though it's an action game, it's much slower paced which gives it a very unique style - it's definitly a more strategic action title.

How in gods name could anyone deny the original trilogy? Saying they're not survival horror is like saying Call of duty isn't a virtual kids creche... which we all know it is.

I wouldn't say that ever. I would say severely limit ammo, or perhaps limit the usefulness of guns period. The fact that you assume there should be guns is very telling, I would much prefer a melee focused horror or even weaponless. But even guns can be balanced without resorting to fucking awful fixed camera angles. Most average characters wouldn't know how to fire a gun at all, so cripple their aim when looking directly at a monster. Make shadows and such that surprise people and possibly trick them into wasting ammo. Add more indistinct enemies, I'm infinitely more scared by the unknown then I am of mutant zombies yet again. Swarm players. Trap them in dead ends, desperate to find a way out. Make the guns jam occasionally, then allow the player to either desperately try to unjam it or just start smacking baddies around with the butt of the gun. Subvert expectations (side note, I always loved how headshots worked in RE4). Make it dark. Make it foggy.

You could do a lot to build tension that doesn't involve shitty controls. Shitty controls is just a cheap, lazy and infinitely easier way to do it.

Well thats my kind of horror dude and to me its not cheap.

But of course I would limit the usefulness of weapons for example make them brakeable with overuse.
