I'm with Phoenix on this one. I think the rep system is fine, but I also think people shouldn't use it to "fit in." In my case, it's very rare that I downrep a non-spam post, and if I DO downrep, it's very likely I'm also going to reply to that thread as well. (Unless I get distracted, which has happened.) >.>

I think some of the community forgets that we do have people like ktchong, who simply lives to attempt to shit stir, so the rep system is an effective way of managing obvious trolls, etc.

Is there room for abuse? Yup, unfortunately, but overall, I prefer that method to heavy-handed censoring and mod micro-management.

klaymen: And if that feature comes online, he will be instantly ignored by majority of users. :)
I hate to be the one to be the buzzkill here Klaymen but...

A couple of Butthurt anally devastated asspained ninny Sissies unable to handle a different point of view =/= Majority of users
Seriously guys? Down rep my post saying that down reping a post is not harmless? What happened to my post is a good example of people abusing that little red button.

Inreption!

langurmonkey: A low or negative rep gives people a bad first impression of you.
avatar
Wishbone: And how do you get low or negative rep? By giving people a bad first impression of you. See?
I KNOW. Read my post again and you will see I'm not saying people don't deserve to have their reputation lowered. I was only pointing out, down reping someone's post is not harmless.
Shiny happy GOGers holding hands.

No such word exists, according to dictionary.com.
This is like watching the O'Reilly Factor or Face the Nation...and I hate those shows. I'm going to go hang out in a different happier thread where I can discuss pretty happy things, like stomping on rats in Fallout to increase experience or slicing up bunny rabbits in Shadow Warrior to, ummmmm, well, increase the number of sliced up bunny rabbits on the screen. :)

Aningan: Few points from me:

1. There is a saying in my country:

"If one person tells you that you're drunk... don't bother with him
If several people tell you that you're drunk.... go to bed!"

Unless you think there is one person with multiple accounts (which hasn't really been a problem since Gamerager), then maybe, just maybe, the problem is with you (the guy low rated). Maybe some particular posts are ok and not worth a downrep, but there is certainly a problem with you and the way you express yourself. But of course, it's easier to blame others, than to look at yourself as the problem. Especially since there are enough "good samaritans" ready to uprep you back. Not before making a post of how awesome and understanding they are obviously.

2. Give us an ignore function already!

3. I use of the +/- system quite liberally. I just don't have the time to engage in endless and pointless debates over every little thing. So if I agree I press +, if I don't agree I press - (by "don't agree" I actually I mean I think the poster is an ass or an idiot). If people don't agree with me, no harm done. If people agree with me then the post becomes "high rated" or "low rated", and maybe the person involved learns something. it's doubtful that they will, but I'm always optimist :))

4. I wonder if this post will be downrated or uprated. Or maybe just dontgiveashitated.
I've heard other Romanian sayings and agree with them. But I disagree with this saying. I think the thought that the majority is always right and the minority always is wrong is wrong. Maybe there is something wrong with everyone else if one person is pissing them off. Maybe everyone else is too intolerant. Maybe everyone else needs to grow the fuck up. Maybe there is something wrong with almost every society today? A good example of this is when Rosa Parks refused to sit in the back of the bus. Anything is possible, right? Why assume the majority are sane reasonable human beings... I don't think it is right to just jump the conclusion that it is the one person that is the rotten fruit. It might be the easiest thing to do because pointing your finger at one person who already has a hundred fingers pointing at him doesn't cause you much problems(and is appealing to cowards, not calling anyone here a coward though). I think that when one person is enraging everyone else, we should look carefully and then use our brains to decide whether, it is that one person who needs to change or everyone else. What you support is hardcore sheep mentality. In a country like Nazi Germany, for example, would you automatically assume the one VS the many, is the rotten fruit?

After just over 1000 days on GOG, I have learned that posts with the most activity are about:

- religion
- homosexuality
- politics
- giveaways

The posts with the least amount of activity are about:

- games

I do enjoy the show, though.

As for down- and up-repping, I'd take it as a sign of popular opinion. It may be a joke or just one guy being rude, but most likely, it's about popular opinion. So if you post a lot of unpopular stuff, your rep will go down.

If you post a million topics that say "Beer is awesome. I like beer," then you may go up or down. If you post something like "I'm a republican," then it'll probably go down. Republicans don't play games. Especially WoW. (note: that's a joke referencing an elected democrat who plays WOW)

If you post about games and help people out with their games, then you'll probably be upvoted and considered a helpful member of the community.

While we're talking about asinine issues, I think we should type GOG as gog. Not GOG or GoG. But gog. Because in the official graphic on the upper left of the website, it says gog.com. All lower case.

Lastly, saltine crackers and chicken and rice soup are most definitely better when the saltine is lightly buttered. Of course, what isn't better when it's lightly buttered?
I just ripped the Fellowship of the Ring in another thread and I havn't been downreped...yet...so maybe there is hope.

People also down rep your gaming related posts if they don't like you and what you said, didn't make 100% sense in their brains. Human nature, I guess. That is why I'm starting to think, downreping should be removed from this forum. And of course, I think there should also be an ignore feature.

Where?! I must downrep you immediately!
People should really understand that the minus button is not a "I disagree" -button. The downvote is reserved for spam posts or troll posts. Do not use that button just because you disagree with a person.

Geez.

The button has become a cowardly way for people to bully other people. Nothing more, nothing less. It makes this forum like Highschool, kind of. Bad first impression = bullied. Too different = bullied. Of course, bullying by down reping is laughable compared to the bullying that happens in schools, but it is still bullying.
