Maybe everyone who has a problem with the rep system should send a letter to the GOG staff. After all we all know that the more responses they receive the more importance they place on a problem.

To all those who think that the rep system is a pile of junk are welcome to think that, but be aware that for some people the numbers and stars actually represent something of their time here on GOG.

That's the problem. A year from now I'm going to be at 170 or lower and because of that people are going to think that I'm a troll. All they see is the number and the join date and figure I'm just an asshole who only hangs out here to annoy people and get derepped. Shit, the only people who don't think that now are the folks who were here when I first joined and have been witnesses to my constructive post, all three of them.

First, I don't think I'm immune to being down repped and I don't want to be, that defeats the purpose. And no even if I was being massively down repped I wouldn't create a thread about it, I'm not a drama queen. I don't know why you assume I would.

I think your problem is that you don't seem to accept that people have different opinions, but I believe others have said that already.

I just want to get this out so you understand: I don't see the abuse as a problem, this is an internet forum, not a place of life and death where if you're low rated you will fall over. Your (everyones) posts here doesn't show what kind of person you're or in anyway is some kind of merit that if you're low rated you're "low" person as you seem to read it as (or anyone else who opposes the rep system other than for the reason that there's too much talk about it). It's just a number, sort of like when you're on YouTube people can up or downvote people's videos but instead of videos it's posts we judge.

This whole anti-judgment vibe you and some people here fear suggest you're afraid of being judged unfairly in a way that it matters but the problem is that the numbers matter very little, about as much as its purpose is really (except for the abuse of course).

I also just want to chip in against this whole abuse talk. If someone is abused unfairly there's typically a reponse of upping that person if the large majority of people agrees that this person was treated poorly which mean the system works. If they don't up that person it might mean that what that person posted was against the opinions of most people and you'll just have to accept that not everyone agrees with everyone. I also have to say, most of the time I see down rated posts that I also down rate it usually means that person have behaved very poorly and the reasons behind that is rational, not emotional.

I don't see a problem with not accepting every word that comes out of every person's mouth. It's called being a human being with beliefs, and not a sponge. Go to a nearby country and tell the people there, your country is better than theirs... I highly doubt the people there will accept this. See, in life, a lot of people don't just accept this or that. I don't know why you haven't learned this. Even PC RPGs teach this to people. Choose a dialogue option and the character you are talking to, accepts it or doesn't accept it. Sometimes when a character, doesn't accept it, the character starts trying to convince you that you are wrong. Sometimes, the character will stop talking to you, start bullying you or attack you etc. This is based on real life... Maybe you should leave the basement time to time, and experience, real life.

I won't write anymore because I don't want to take up too much of your time. :P You have some judging to do, so you can determine who in this forum, needs to be punished for their crimes of saying things that displease Nirth. It's not enough to just to be nasty to those who write horrible evil things in your eyes, you also have to downrep every single post that comes from this person for the rest of your life. JUSTICE MUST BE SERVED. And there is nothing wrong with that, because it's not like, a low rep, kills. It sounds like, YOU have a problem...Nirth because you downrep bully the people with different opinions...when normal people don't.

The last part of your post is pure bullshit because it only takes 4 people to lower someone's rep and there are a lot of people who are neutral and a lot of people just too lazy to +1 someone. So if someone loses rep, it doesn't mean, that is what the community wants... It seems you are defending your toys(the rep system) so nobody takes them away from you...

Yes, sarcastic. If you don't understand it it's your problem, not mine. Again, with the whole truth in front of the forum, you assume everyone crave some kind of community attention, why is that? I also never attacked your personality, I merely pointed out that you again and again on this forum have a very distinct issue when people write their own opinions and you seem to make the mistake (altough on this part I may be wrong) that I fault you for that, I just pointed it out because you take it so personal when people down rep.

And last, you take the whole system too seriously which is interesting because whenever I take it up as the inherent issue you blurt out saying that I attacked you personally when in fact you have mentioned numerous times when I've responded to you that "maybe you're the one with problem" instead of actually coming with argument.

Nevertheless, I think it's good you won't respond to me anymore as I won't respond to you. We'll both save each others time and energy by not going forth with this. (Just so you know I hope you don't take a personal offense to this because that's not what I'm after, I'm merely pointing out, that we see things differently).

Believe it or not, I pay little attention to a person's rep. I do my best to read people's posts and form my own opinion of people, you know, like in "reality." Even if it is a negative rep, if I have time, I will try to find out why they were downrepped. I seem to recall awhile ago an individual who was severely downrepped when he first joined. I believe it had something to do with his immediately asking for free games in the gifting thread. Come to find out it seemed that he was very new to GoG, and possibly gaming related forums in general. I also seem to recall that some good advice was given to him and also much encouragement from many users.

My rambling post is simply trying to point out that rep never tells the whole story.
