Seriously I think people need to read Vestin's post more carefully when he explains why the system is good and stop taking it as some kind of anonymous criticism on your soul.

I`m pretty sure those that constantly are down reaping are way younger than most of us (I hope), but it`s still no excuse. Most of us understand that that is his opinion, and should not be hanged for it. I makes me a little sad actually.

I love you Licurg my friend, you know that, but it's easy to say it doesn't matter with your rep. Someone sees me dropping constantly and soon to be losing stars and regardless of if they mean to or not they start to assume I'm a troll and that can be a problem.

Lots of downvoting seems to occur in the Community Gifting Thread, whenever somebody keeps bumping his/her request list. I personally don't consider this to be bad, but apparently many people see this as spamming. Also, different users likely have different posts-per-page settings, so the one making the requests may not even be aware that somebody actually sees two or three of his/her posts on a single page.

If that's the case, then an "ignore user" feature, or probably a script that allows hiding posts by a particular user, could be handy.

Erm... It HAS happened to me, lots of times... Trust me, there's more people that hate me than they do you . You probably get downrepped because seeing you whine is funny, but there are people that actually hate me... Bad :D

I think the amount of gift threads is ridiculous and borders on spamming itself, we all have different opinions. The problem is that sometimes people go nuts because someone touched a nerve, e.g too impotant opinion to let it go.

Seriously. I wonder how much fighting in forums could be stopped if moderators blocked the main two people that are fighting from reading each others' posts instead of unnecessary banishment, thread locking, thread deletion etc..

Easy for you to say. You think you are immune to being down reped? If a bunch of people target YOU for downrep bullying one day, I bet, you will change your mind. You will probably create a thread and then write a massive wall of whining text to convince people the rep system needs to go. And this post of yours, pretty much announces to the world, that you are one of the people who enjoys bullying others with the down rep button. The "Haha, now the OP is down repped." And the "I love this system." is strong evidence of that.

I never trolled or flamed, but I have changed and become a very boring participant in forums since I joined the internet almost 20 years ago. People just don't get humour, sarcasm, etc, on the internet. Nor do they seem to have time for conflicting opinions. But I have learned to save the accumulation of hate, poor taste and vitriol for those that deserve it most; my close friends and family :D
