I'm NOT defending him and yes he does. He has the right to offend you, it's called freedom of speech and it is practiced in this forum. If you don't like it fine, I don't hold that against you, but it does mean you are in the wrong forum. There are other forums out there where if you post something that is deemed offensive or inappropriate then you are kicked out of the forum. This is NOT one of those forums.

CymTyr: I think asking for religious advice on here is asking for trouble. However, I'll give you my two cents.

Religion in and of itself is not bad. I agree with you that organized religion has been responsible for the vast majority of heinous acts throughout our world's history, up to this day.

Really, I would think teaching your kids about God in a way where they get to know him in their own way is not a bad idea, as long as you've inforced a clear conscience into them and a clear moral compass. Not that guilt mechanisms are inherently good, but some lessons do need to be taught to children.

I don't have any kids, but if I did, they would be taught the irony that is organized religion versus finding God your own way, which is ultimately, imho, what Jesus, Buddha, and the other prophets were trying to teach.

carlovili: thanks man.
You're welcome, I hope it helps.
Introduce them to all religions and then let them choose.
Kids are kids - their brains are yours to wash.

...and a mind is a terrible thing to taste. :D
Whatever you do I'd advise against encouraging religious beliefs in your children. If there is such as thing as universal truth then they will eventually find that. They've got to find their own way for the values to be meaningful. Sometimes even atheism leads to a deeper and renewed religious understanding through rational exploration, or visa versa.

WAS that an offensive post? It seemed more confused query than any sort of bashing. Though I will say that this isn't the typical kind of topic one would see on this forum.

No it wasn't but I'm trying really hard not to start a fight here. Contrary to the way I normally act I really don't feel like bickering and if it turns into that I'm going to go play Bloodrayne or Doom or something.

Maybe you should consider liqour, it's easier and more relaxed.

XD Lived in a bottle for 15 years, I miss it dearly but eventually your body will rebel against that type of abuse so I had to stop.

this is one of the only forums left where people have good manners. of course there's always some rotten tomatoes, but most of the time this is a great place. i don't want to argue with you if this is the right place for me or not, ok? let's just end this before things get out of control (and what this have to do with OP? i hope someone locks this topic).

tinyE: It takes just as much faith to believe in something you can't prove exist than it does to not believe in something you can't prove doesn't exist.

That really doesn't add anything to the thread it just happens to be a moniker of mine that I keep close to the vest.
By this logic, I have faith that ideas I haven't even conceived of don't exist, which is ridiculous. A lack of belief does not require or even imply a faith in non-existence.

Too many people these days take "Freedom of Speech" to mean "Speech I am okay with". Kudos for not being one of those people but I wouldn't have expected it of you anyway.
We should keep bumping this thread, just because it suggests we've found a solution to religion :P
