I did a search on the site and wasn't able to come up with any hits. But if I am posting a duplicate topic, I apologize in advance.
My question is simple: Where do you guys (and gals) go when you're looking for a game review? Any and all suggestions for reliable/objective reviews are greatly appreciated.
No posts in this topic were marked as the solution yet. If you can help, add your reply
to stinging velvet (since gog's quote system is poo)
well you pretty much already explained that reasoning in your first reply, where you said you can't boil down 3 pages into a single number, so that does nothing to change my mind. What kind of crazy ass out there would actually be thinking a single digit or symbol is supposed to explain exactly why the reviewer liked/disliked the game? No kidding the number doesn't do that. That's not the point of a numbers/rating scale.
I find numbers come in handy to saving time in finding the good and negative reviews..I'm not sure exactly how you can say it's pointless when it serves me and otherswell, but OK. You not utilizing a feature does not make the feature universally pointless .
Sorry I should just have just dropped it, but the final "It's pointless" had such a tone of finality and case closed-edness ( i made that word up) to it that I f elt I had to say something
It's not pointless. Case closed buster.

Well, I suppose if one was searching for negative reviews then the numbers would make that easier to do, which is a benefit of them. I consider that to be pretty minor and abstract though... is that the point of them, simply as cataloging devices? No, it's not. People treat them as a decision, not a filing system.
Here is the best way to explain it I think: looking at the number tells you nothing about the game. That's the clear-cut thing I am saying, and why I use the word pointless. Seeing a "6" tells you nothing about whether you will like the game or what the game is about, plays like or has in common with other games.
gog forums have been acting funny lately this is a test post
edit and change of topic- I have been getting messages lately saying something like" this topic has been closed" while trying to post in threads, even though it turns out the topic is still open. anybody else been getting this?
I'm dropping the current discussion because of posting problems, and it's not that much of a big deal anyway
