Was looking forward to this one and I'm glad it is actually here now, but the regular price is a bit high for me this one, especially without any multiplayer functionality. I'm going to have to pass it up for now, but if they add multiplayer functionality back to the game in some form and it comes on sale for a reasonable price I'd definitely want to pick up a copy. Hopefully it sells well enough to encourage them to add the missing functionality though.
For anyone who is having difficulty finding the game via gog's search, all you have to do is type in " the game" in the search box. Intuitive, no? Same kind of "perfectly valid" logic as you would find in any typical adventure game. (Yes, yes, "z " and "z:" also both work along with "z!"/"z*"/"z."/..., but then so does "ckt", "k g".)

Now that is an interesting bug in the search bar. Apparently it doesn't start searching until 2 or more characters are typed. If you type "z " (z with a space) then it finds the game.

Arkose: No multiplayer, no resolution options, poorly adapted mobile controls and interface... really not recommended.

ALH: No XP.That's the final nail in the coffin.
XP is history. I really don't expect gog to support it for long time. I mean this is 13 years old system, unsupported and basically unsafe now. Just move to 7 - its exactly the same and everything runs just fine. Not to misunderstand me - I was a XP supporter till MS canceled support for it.

I dropped an email to ticktack games (they've prepared this port, right?) about XP support. We will see if I get an answer. Possible someone with FB/Twitter account could do the same?
I feel for those that still want XP support. I still like XP also, but have moved on to 7 and Linux Mint. If losing XP is the price for adding Linux support, then I say it's a good trade.
And yet another Bitmap Brothers classic gets the "remaster" treatment. Too bad, I would've snapped this up instantly otherwise.

Indeed, Windows XP support ended a few months ago (April 8, 2014 if memory serves correctly). GOG surprisingly still supports it in the catalogue for games that offer support for it though which I didn't expect to happen once XP went end-of-life, so that's pretty cool of them. Most software developers out there have stopped supporting XP on new software they're putting out there for a while now though, even since before XP went EOL so it isn't too much of a surprise that some game publishers are providing their games to their distribution partners like GOG and Steam etc. without providing Windows XP support now. I wouldn't be surprised though if some of the older games can still be made to work on XP mind you, and people can certainly get enough help/assistance in the forums and on Google even if the developer/publisher doesn't support a given game on XP officially. I know I'd try to help someone with a game on XP if I thought I could.

At the same time I can see how it would seem odd to people a very old game being available that predates XP and doesn't have any official support for XP. It's just the nature of operating systems becoming obsolete and unsupported though. Same thing happened when DOS went EOL, Windows 95, 98, 98SE, ME, etc. Heck it took me 10 years to build a new modern PC and finally get off of XP myself, and I was kicking and screaming the whole way. :) I have zero regrets of moving to Windows 7/x64 now though however it did require a new PC as it wouldn't have ran even "crappy" on my old PC. Snails would have lapped it...

If anyone wants to host a Windows eXPired effigy burning party as a great symbolic gesture some night though count me in!

Frankly I had the same problem getting of XP. I stayed on it till Microsoft dropped support. I had big problems getting win 7 to run but at the end I was surprised to find out that my pc actually can run a 64 bit of it - somehow I have one of the first processors that support 64 bit processing. What a surprise that was for me. The 32 bit version of it did not wan't to run on my pc but im quite satisfied with the 64 bit. To be frank I actually decided to upgrade the pc to WIN 8 but that one is not good for old pcs - too slow and problematic (metro not an issue for me) and downgraded to 7.

Funny you should mention that... I literally have the very first x86_64 processor here, a 1600MHz first-cilicon prototype of AMD's Clawhammer, and also a previous development prototype clocked at 800MHz. Both are clocked lower than the first units to actually be sold (1800MHz was the slowest consumer Clawhammer IIRC) but it was exciting as hell to own them back then as I'd been following the development of the processor for years before that and due to my enthusiasm and the right connections through my employer I managed to get a loaner AMD Solo system at the time. Words can't describe how happy I was about that at the time. :) Multi-booted the beast between 32bit Linux, 64bit Linux and Windows XP for some number of years until various parts of the system ultimately failed. I still have both of them here but it is doubtful I'll be able to revive them nowadays I suspect. Lot of good memories on that hardware though!

With a move to Windows 7 on such old systems the biggest performance kick in the gut is pretty much limited amount of RAM. Most of those old systems only had anywhere from 512MB of RAM in them to 2GB or so, and running a 64bit OS on them eats up about 30% more memory on average which is a bit tight on systems with that little memory nowadays. As crazy as one might think though, I ran that 1600MHz AMD64 up until about 4 years ago, then a 2.8GHz P4 with 2GB of RAM and XP up until about 17 months ago. Totally crazy for 2014 to say the least. Now I'm nice and comfy with a 4GHz 8-core AMD 8350FX with 32GB of RAM. Noooooo mooooorreee sloowwwww.... :)
The front page picture reminds me of The Enigmatic T
Windows XP is officially a dead operating system, you can not possibly expect from anyone to support that.
Now is the time to move on to Windows 7.

About the game: I am more than happy that this game is working on modern operating systems, I have been hunting this game for years, but I could not get it.

I have already played it through on Easy difficulty. It is nice to have difficulty settings, because the old DOS version was tough as nails, my father and me was raging on it sometimes :D
However I was a bit sad that the old pathing and AI stucking problems are still there, it would nice from the developers if they fix it.
I hope they will in the future.

Also thanks for the starting -20% promo, it is just nice from you.
Keep up the good work and thanks for this game.

Windows 8 provides the best gaming experience going forward. Windows 7 leaves mainstream support on January 13, 2015 (meaning it will not receive new features and major enhancements); expect DirectX 12 to be only available for Windows 8 and newer due to this change.

Yes but windows 8 does not work on a lot older pcs. Windows 8.1 dropped support for a lot of older hardware. So basically its not good for old systems.

If you're referring to the CMPXCHG16b requirement that is only for the 64-bit version, so the 32-bit version would install fine (Windows licenses cover both architectures starting with Vista).

Some recent releases require a 64-bit version of Windows but those incompatible CPUs would fail the minimum specifications for such games anyway.
