Bringing back the best traditions of eXtraterrestrial COMbat!

Xenonauts, the spiritual successor to the classic 1990s X-Com games bringing back and expanding all of their strategic depth and tactical greatness, is available on 20% off on GOG.com. That's $19.99 for the first week!

Xenonauts is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games from the 1990s. We aim to improve the graphics, add new content and streamline the interface whilst still retaining all of the key mechanics of the original games. Devoted fans should love this game, but we're also keen to introduce the joys of old-school grand strategy to a whole new generation of players who might not otherwise experience it! In this robust strategy game you control a multi-national military organisation defending a Cold War-era Earth from an alien invasion, using small squads of persistent soldiers to eliminate the extraterrestrials and recover their technology in turn-based ground combat. A detailed strategic layer allows you to co-ordinate the defence of the planet, using your interceptors to shoot down UFOs and researching captured artefacts to learn about your foes and unlock new combat equipment to use on your missions. The game comes with a full MP3 sountrack!

The alien overlords' plan was as simple, as it was brilliant: "wait for the 2014 DRM-Free Summer Sale to start on GOG.com, and conquer the Earth with minimum resistance while everyone is busy tracking the Flash Deals". Stay vigilant, defender of our home planet! Only you can foil the extraterrestrials' scheme and show them that the human race is not to be messed with, in Xenonauts, for $19.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount will last until Monday, June 23, at 1:00PM GMT.
Never heard about this game and never played a X Com games. It seems interesting, i'll wait a complete review on Nolife to see if i'll buy this game or not.
I played a little of this during beta and my impressions were this is the real deal. This isn't another Ufo Defense clone/spiritual successor which falls short, this has all the features of the original X-com plus more, the AI seems to be better than I remember from when I played X-com and TFTD, there's more alien types in this, more weapons, more base customization, the world map/intercepts in this game actually has real strategy involved. The combat is just as deep/complex as Ufo Defense from what I played.

Note: I played it a long while ago, so it's possible it's got even better since then.

Let me get this straight: There's a summer sale, Xenonauts gets released today and Original sin will be released on June 30th.
What are you trying to do to me GOG?

yyahoo: It's too bad that Firaxis beat these guys to the punch with Enemy Unknown.

JMich: Punch? XCOM:EU came out in 2012, Xenonauts was announced waaaaaaaay earlier in 2009. No punches there, in either direction.
Ah, well, I was reading about people saying it was in "early access"/beta status until now, and I figured that didn't exactly count as a release... I mean, I can "announce" a world simulator where you can use virtual reality goggle to visit the entire world with optional alien invasion scenarios, but when the actual game/software is released in 2040, it doesn't mean that I actually beat the real software to the punch because I had the idea first... Firaxis beat them to release. That's all I was saying.

Regardless, I always welcome with open arms *any* new TBS game.... so, yay!
Cool! This actually has over 250 wishlist votes, so that's nice. And having an X-COM-like game is great for those who want this genre on GOG.

After the release of SimCity 4, though, things have felt a little dull. I hope you guys are able to bring something else big over the summer.
Screw it - purchased.

But ~2 years earlier isn't exactly "to the punch", is it? :P
So GOG is doing the early access things now, huh? In any case, $20 is a bit steep, and I'd much rather have a complete game, so it can sit on the wishlist for the moment.
As a backer, can I say I am damn GLAD that the game has made it way to GOG.
IMHO, if you're looking for a true spiritual successor to the X-COM games of old, get this one.
XCOM:EU/EW is to me, a more accessible/simplified version of X-COM, still fun of course.

They are not. Xenonauts is released today, thus it appeared on GOG.

Likewise. You made a good point about DRM-free Day One debuts, so I wanted to cast my wallet vote in favour of that as well.
Been looking forward to this one, glad to see it here!
Also apparently this game has very strong mod-support, and mods are already appearing, so there's a chance they'll be some "megamods" in the future that make it even better.

And the publisher is new-to-gOg with this release, too. It's like a triple-bonus release-day bit of awesome.
