Bringing back the best traditions of eXtraterrestrial COMbat!

Xenonauts, the spiritual successor to the classic 1990s X-Com games bringing back and expanding all of their strategic depth and tactical greatness, is available on 20% off on GOG.com. That's $19.99 for the first week!

Xenonauts is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games from the 1990s. We aim to improve the graphics, add new content and streamline the interface whilst still retaining all of the key mechanics of the original games. Devoted fans should love this game, but we're also keen to introduce the joys of old-school grand strategy to a whole new generation of players who might not otherwise experience it! In this robust strategy game you control a multi-national military organisation defending a Cold War-era Earth from an alien invasion, using small squads of persistent soldiers to eliminate the extraterrestrials and recover their technology in turn-based ground combat. A detailed strategic layer allows you to co-ordinate the defence of the planet, using your interceptors to shoot down UFOs and researching captured artefacts to learn about your foes and unlock new combat equipment to use on your missions. The game comes with a full MP3 sountrack!

The alien overlords' plan was as simple, as it was brilliant: "wait for the 2014 DRM-Free Summer Sale to start on GOG.com, and conquer the Earth with minimum resistance while everyone is busy tracking the Flash Deals". Stay vigilant, defender of our home planet! Only you can foil the extraterrestrials' scheme and show them that the human race is not to be messed with, in Xenonauts, for $19.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount will last until Monday, June 23, at 1:00PM GMT.
Great Game
Yeah just got my gogkey from the dev :)
high rated
I tried to put a review but it's always too long -_-
This is the shortest version and I need to post it somewhere so i'll do it here :D

This game is a work of love. Many people have put countless hours or worked for lot less that they deserve so we should have this game. Quality of artwork is great, I like the feeling of 70s cold war era it conveys and like how the alien technology is different and unfamiliar. UFOs in Xenonauts are gorgeous. Game mechanics feel very much like x-com, turn based combat and all. I like it how each and every part of your equipment inventory is useful. You want to use flashbangs for UFO assaults? You're covered. You like to cover your advance with smoke? Covered too. You need to capture a live alien? You can get close and personal or you can develop and use different kinds of grenades or missiles to deliver the gas payload. You want extra protection for your soldiers? Take a tactical shield and do it SWAT style.
You can also bring scout apc with you into the fight, the design behind it is that you can place many different turrets to it, adding to versatility and honoring different playstyles people have.
Soldiers - modern xcom guys all felt and sounded the same. Here, every soldier has a unique portrait, nationality, unit he or she's from and where he or she had combat experiences prior to xenonauts assignment. Aerial combat is a nice addition and it has autoresolve button which you should avoid at all costs, not because it's not good but because you need to learn to fight with the ufo's.
Financial side of the game is very much different in xenonauts. After each mission you automatically sell all that you don't need so no more hoarding of alien plasma rifles and whatnot. Only things you recover from crash sites are alloys, alien power cells and Alenium, the alien fuel and energy source.
Funding nations are present and they look at your every action, you need to start making bases that cover much of the globe right from the start because they won't look kindly at your organization if the casualties start to mount rapidly.
I love the game so far and if you're a fan of original x-com, you didn't like modern one that much, please try this one out and you'll find what you've been waiting for!

They are working on it. Wine 1.2.3 has been reported to work properly, so you can try bottling it yourself. See post 202 for more.
I'll buy it when it costs less than $10. Probably when it gets Old.
Got my GOG copy from them, I'm a Kickstarter backer, awesome devs.
Does this allow for more troops in mission than Enemy Unknown? Another things I miss other than base defense was the limited number of troops and therefore squads available. 12 is is more amusing and realistic to me than 4 or 5. You can have real overwatches, kill zones, etc.

Maximum is 12 iirc.
But you're limited by your dropship.
At the start you only can have 8 men or 6 men + 1 vehicle teams.

Wow! As a fan of the XCOM franchise, both of the original and the modern (although the latter gave me a hard time to get used to the ''console style'' controls plus its UI but still a wonderful game if somewhat oversimplified) i can already imagine myself losing a lot of sleep in front of my monitor.

Unfortunately, it has to go on my wishlist for now - such a bad timing for me, with all these flash sales running already - nevertheless i'm glad that this game made it here on gog!
Just had my veteran 1st squad wiped out on a city battle. It was the first time I had to fight those green suited aliens with the gas mask looking things on their faces. Tough fight but I lost it in the end. Some are saying that the AI is glitched, some even say it's weak. I must be losing my skills, because Xenonauts is really putting up a hell of a challenge for me. Definitely a fun game, though.
Wishlisted for a future seasonal sale blowout extravaganza! Looks pretty awesome so I'll definitely want to play it at some point, but after acquiring the complete super holy shit everything XCOM collection last year and only making it half way through UFO Defense so far, I've got a lot of gameplay to complete within the series that started it all first (excluding the games it drew inspiration from), plus I have the XCOM inspired UFO series on GOG which is itself pretty cool, and UFO Extraterrestrials, and possibly others I forget about too. But... who can resist one more game in the genre that looks awesome and appears true to the originals?

Looks like the game is getting excellent reviews too. Can someone who owns it already tell me if it supports 2560x1600 monitor resolution?

You really have to play smart or the AI will kill you quick.... Unfortunately, some people always want the AI to do something else...some say too weak, some say too strong.... Too me, the game seems very fun and that is all that really matters.

1920x1080 is the highest setting

Is your monitor 1920x1080? If so, the game might prune unusable modes from the list and not show them perhaps. I end up having to manually test a lot of games for that to find out as most folks monitors are 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 or less and it might not show. :/

I created a GOG Mix which I was using to try and keep track of games that support 2560x1600 but unfortunately there doesn't appear to be any way to find your GOG mix afterward to update it unless you randomly stumble upon it or bookmarked it so I lost it. Nice to know which games support UHD modes though.
