Bringing back the best traditions of eXtraterrestrial COMbat!

Xenonauts, the spiritual successor to the classic 1990s X-Com games bringing back and expanding all of their strategic depth and tactical greatness, is available on 20% off on GOG.com. That's $19.99 for the first week!

Xenonauts is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games from the 1990s. We aim to improve the graphics, add new content and streamline the interface whilst still retaining all of the key mechanics of the original games. Devoted fans should love this game, but we're also keen to introduce the joys of old-school grand strategy to a whole new generation of players who might not otherwise experience it! In this robust strategy game you control a multi-national military organisation defending a Cold War-era Earth from an alien invasion, using small squads of persistent soldiers to eliminate the extraterrestrials and recover their technology in turn-based ground combat. A detailed strategic layer allows you to co-ordinate the defence of the planet, using your interceptors to shoot down UFOs and researching captured artefacts to learn about your foes and unlock new combat equipment to use on your missions. The game comes with a full MP3 sountrack!

The alien overlords' plan was as simple, as it was brilliant: "wait for the 2014 DRM-Free Summer Sale to start on GOG.com, and conquer the Earth with minimum resistance while everyone is busy tracking the Flash Deals". Stay vigilant, defender of our home planet! Only you can foil the extraterrestrials' scheme and show them that the human race is not to be messed with, in Xenonauts, for $19.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount will last until Monday, June 23, at 1:00PM GMT.

TomNook: Aw. I regret getting this on Steam now.

AttObl: If the Steam version doesn't come with the soundtrack, them I'm regretting my decision on getting Xenonauts on Steam.
I know mine didn't. But then I bought it during Early Access.

Wow, that's exceedingly generous. Thanks for letting me know.
On the Xenonauts site, they say that mac and linux versions are included in the Humble and Desura versions of the game (though not the steam version) despite the fact that it is not advertised as such. Quote from the site's FAQ:

"3) IS THIS GAME AVAILABLE ON MAC OR LINUX?
Yes, however the ports use a WINE wrapper and therefore do not work natively (this is due to limitations in the game engine). Currently you will need to purchase the game on the Humble Store or Desura to have access to Mac / Linux builds as they are not presently available on Steam."

Anybody know if the GOG version contains the mac and linux builds as well?

Neither is included at this point.

For now, it is only windows version, but it looks like we will receive mac version soon (and linux probably later this year) - I was reporting text glitches in mac/linux versions from humble and received such an answer from Chris (dev):
"I'd recommend playing the game on 1920x1080. However, the text glitches are likely caused by wine. We're going to do an updated build in a few days that hopefully fixes it - the QA guys at GOG said Wine 1.2.3 would likely fix the issue."
I tried it with GOG windows version - and in wine 1.2.3 it works really well - so you can build your own wrapper now too, you don't need to wait :D
For anyone who is interested, if you purchased this game via Desura Alpha Funding or Steam Early Access before the GOG release, you can get a GOG key by emailing the lead dev:

I've totally missed this one so far. Heard about it yesterday for the first time. After buying rouhgly 20 games on GOG and with Steam Summer Sale in the frontyard, I'm rather waiting for the price to drop a bit more –that could be unlikely indeed.

I've also missed the first XCOM or UFO games (though I have some of them in my steam library by now) but since XCOM: Enemy Unknown and especially Enemy Within I am totally fixed. And after +100 hours of XCOM:EU/EW I still cannot get enough. The perfect balance between mikro- and makromanagement, I hope to see something simliar with Xenonauts!

What details do you need to provide him with to prove you actually did purchase either?

I just said what my username is on Desura and here, and that my email is the same for both accounts.

EDIT: Just got my gog code, so yep it's all cool.

I played for 20 minutes, and thought "hmm you know what, I guess I should read the Quickstart guide and manual before I try this any further". So, I printed them out: something to read while spending some time on a cabin tomorrow. First time in a long time since I had to resort to the manual!
looks nice

My hint after 8 hours with the final version....don't plan on saving everyone....(even on normal). It's rough fighting aliens...

Fixed a typo
