Bringing back the best traditions of eXtraterrestrial COMbat!

Xenonauts, the spiritual successor to the classic 1990s X-Com games bringing back and expanding all of their strategic depth and tactical greatness, is available on 20% off on GOG.com. That's $19.99 for the first week!

Xenonauts is a spiritual successor to the classic X-Com strategy games from the 1990s. We aim to improve the graphics, add new content and streamline the interface whilst still retaining all of the key mechanics of the original games. Devoted fans should love this game, but we're also keen to introduce the joys of old-school grand strategy to a whole new generation of players who might not otherwise experience it! In this robust strategy game you control a multi-national military organisation defending a Cold War-era Earth from an alien invasion, using small squads of persistent soldiers to eliminate the extraterrestrials and recover their technology in turn-based ground combat. A detailed strategic layer allows you to co-ordinate the defence of the planet, using your interceptors to shoot down UFOs and researching captured artefacts to learn about your foes and unlock new combat equipment to use on your missions. The game comes with a full MP3 sountrack!

The alien overlords' plan was as simple, as it was brilliant: "wait for the 2014 DRM-Free Summer Sale to start on GOG.com, and conquer the Earth with minimum resistance while everyone is busy tracking the Flash Deals". Stay vigilant, defender of our home planet! Only you can foil the extraterrestrials' scheme and show them that the human race is not to be messed with, in Xenonauts, for $19.99 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount will last until Monday, June 23, at 1:00PM GMT.
Thumbs Up for GoG and CD Projekt

IAmSinistar: New one on me, but looks great! And I salute the alien plan, they are indeed cunning devils.
Do you mean you've never even played X-Com? Or just not this one?

Russonc: Have had the beta for the last 3 years and it is great....Glad to see it come out on GOG!
Cool! Did they get the balancing right in your opinion?

The game was available to purchase for at least 3 years, and it also had a Kickstarter at some point. The last 6 months (or is it more?) it was on Steam on Early Access. Today is its release day, and GOG got it. Steam is still listing it as an Early Access game, and it will be officially released there in ~3.5 hours.
It's too bad that Firaxis beat these guys to the punch with Enemy Unknown. That said, I'm sure I'll pick this up at some point in time...

Punch? XCOM:EU came out in 2012, Xenonauts was announced waaaaaaaay earlier in 2009. No punches there, in either direction.

I have not played all the way through (I wanted to wait until final version out). From what I have played and read from others, I think the balance is good. It can be hard and plays a bit different than the original (much harder to save all the countries from dropping funding).
Nice-one, though I still haven't finished XCOM:EU.. and even bought XCOM:EW... so first i think I should tackle those.

Oh no, I've played and loved the X-COM games since they first came out. I just didn't know about this loving tribute game. I will definitely get it, just weighing it against my Summer Sale shopping for a bit.
Thank you Goldhawk Interactive - and gOg - for this Day One DRM-free release. Much appreciated, and keep 'em coming.
