IAmSinistar: Not that it may matter much at this point, since we're destroying even the phytoplankton at a rate that could make Soylent Green look optimistic.
You are quite right about the phytoplankton, it is indeed scary. As is the dwindling numbers of bees. No bees, no pollination. No pollination .. well if absolutely all pollination should cease to occur, then eventually all flowering plants and the creatures that they support would disappear.

Anyway, sorry for the OT
Being a tree-hugger/whale-lover myself I had a similar reaction to this.
However it seems the heroes job is to find an alternative source of energy that will save humanity AND the sky whales.
A very mixed up look at environmentalism but pretty cool after all.
My reflexes aren't up to this kind of game anymore but I like it nonetheless. ;)
Well, I´m not sure. On the one hand I pretty much dislike that Terraria Graphics, on the other hand I pretty much like that setting...
It´s a hard decision for me!
Is it just me or are the system requirements for this quite high?

I don't think I've ever seen a new game that doesn't support vista before.
Most interesting of the new releases today for me, despite the graphics.

Yeti575: Not that I defend whale hunting but how about when you first open up on such a topic ....

Consider how the oceans are being hoovered empty for fish by gigantic trawlers from *all* of Europe.. You get ships from Spain, Russia, UK, France, Portugal etc emptying the oceans around Norway and Iceland. They trawl with such fine masked nets that nothing escapes. Not even smaller fish that is supposed to escape, "grow up", and bring along the next generation. So yeah, I don't cry over a few whales. I cry over entire oceans being drained
It's not just fishing, it's also the crap we put into the ocean that is killing higher level life forms and clearing up the way for the primitive ones.

We are producing too much crap and not disposing of our waste in a proper way. Classic example of the "whatever works today and the heck if I care with what happens tomorrow" retarded mentality we have.

This looks cool. Very cool. I'll have to consider this one.
I like the look of this game, but I find the idea of "minable" whales extremely disturbing (not helped by the way-too-graphic graphics). Anyone know if it's open-ended enough that I can just ignore that gamplay option?
This looks awesome ! Gonna buy it at the first sale !

After playing a bit it seems as though the mining of whales is kind of a 'badguy thing' from a roleplaying perspective, so no I don't think it's required.

Does anyone know if this has gamepad support? I'm pretty awful at side-scrolling games with kb/m, but this looks pretty great.

Wondering that too. Wasn't expecting to need new computer (still on XP, otherwise it meets or exceeds the minimum requirements) for this kind of game. Wistlisted for now.
So do I mine whales from beginning to end, or am I trying to stop it? Do I "mine" from beginning to end, or is the main objective to save them?

I had gotten this confused with Windborne (I tihnk that was it) when I read it was released.
But this is the whaling game.
Definitely a non-buy for me without multiplayer though.

Well, it seems pretty freeform to be honest. You could be the benevolent protector of the skies and work with the whales to stop the badguys OR you could be an avian lord of terror who loots, plunders, and rides around in a whale corpse as to strike fear into the hearts of everything.

That said, I've mostly been just goofing off, and have only finished the first two quests, so yeah I could end up being Reginald 'Carver of Whales and Scourge of the Skies' if that's where the story takes me. But I usually play the goodguy, soooo...
