War never changes. Wargames evolve.

Wargame: European Escalation, an amazingly complex and highly realistic modern military real-time strategy game presenting believable conflict scenarios in late XX century Europe, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $9.99 for the first week!

The cold war divided the world and we might never know how close we came to mutual destruction of so called "east" and "west". The military budgets of this time period were simply unimaginable, leading to the highest accumulation of military force in mankind's history. With ideology, economy, and fear fueling the silent conflict, the arms race soon got out of control. Each of the sides paid close attention to the other's every step. One event was enough to provoke a war, which would engulf the entire war in nuclear flames. Now, you can see how intense things were getting!

Wargame: European Escalation focuses on the events that had the potential to trigger a war between the countries of the Warsaw Pact and NATO. The game's time frame (1975-1985) is one of the least explored, yet very interesting periods in strategic gaming. The title offers complex RTS gameplay giving you control over 361 different historical units characteristic for the forces of eight nations divided into two factions that take part in the events. On the Warsaw Pact side, we have the Soviet Union, Poland, East Germany, and Czechoslovakia, while NATO side includes United States, France, West Germany, and United Kingdom. The DRM-free version of the game includes all of the free expansions: New Battlefields, Conquest, Commander, and Fatal Error. With a wide selection of single-player scenarios (both historical and fictional), a variety of multi-player maps, and the unique IRISZOOM™ system allowing for fluent, continuous zoom from the global view to a single unit, this game delivers one of the most critically acclaimed contemporary strategic experiences!

Wargame: European Escalation, for only $9.99! The 50% off discount offer lasts for a week, that is until Thurdsay, August 22, at 11:59AM GMT.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: You'll need a CD-key to access the game's multi-player features. The key will be supplied with your copy of the game. We will begin supplying keys to customers tomorrow!

Kunovski: I never understood why those generals didn't just use their sticks to smack the enemy units, instead of just pushing them and their own around... lots of lives could have been saved!
avatar
JudasIscariot: Because those sticks break easily and are very expensive to replace :P
yep, I bet all those countries at war have for example thousands of tanks to fight with, but only two or three sticks that must stay intact and undamaged for the whole duration of war! :D

Aver: Bought! I hope that MP in this one is as good as in World in Conflict - it is my favorite MP RTS of all time.
It is better (different though)

IAmSinistar: It looks amazing. Can anyone who has played it tell me if it is as complex as it looks? I feel overwhelmed just by the screenshots, but I also know a proper design makes keeping track of things and performing actions easy to do. I don't mind a lot of tactical richness if the interface makes everything clear and smooth to manage.
That depends a bit on how you define complex. Moving troops, making sure that they get the supplies they need, getting them to attack and so on is not hard at all. It's mainly basic RTS controls .
But the game does offer a good amount of tactical complexities.

Exactly, because how else are those generals going to push those units where they need to be? With their hands? I don't think so :P
Let the next game from Eugen please be R.U.S.E..
Is the installer including all the languages mentionned in the gamecard ?

Im actually quite shocked they were able to get this in (the better game imho) before R.U.S.E

Thanks ! I was a little bit worried after Dragon Commander :D
Wow, never heard of this game, looks great though.

Silverhawk170485: The negatives are:

- There is a singleplayer campaign which you can forget. It plays like an tutorial. So multiplayer is an essential thing for this game (requires key).
I don't play multiplayer... Is the singleplayer campaign really as bad as you describe it? :-(

Thanks, that's what I'm looking for. I don't mind lots of units and options and tactics, I just don't care for games where I have to micromanage each unit needlessly, or where master control is unintuitive. Factors like this are part of what finally put me off Perimeter (along with the copious game bugs).
When's the Linux version going to be available here?

Yes. You have to see the singleplayer as a tutorial. It's short and mainly shows the functions of the units (how to command them, tactics etc.). It is clearly a multiplayer game. The story is also a bit abstruse. Compared to R.U.S.E. the whole presentation is very sterile. If you look at the menus it feels like playing a prototype of a game where not all features are implemented yet.

Where's the Linux client? This game has a Linux client and the developers use Linux...
Although this game looks interesting I've read on eurogamer.de that the single-player in this game isn't really good and that its more a multi- than single-player-game. So I'll have to pass.
