A true role-playing platformer experience that will unleash your inner munchkin.

Unepic, an awesome RPG/platformer full of loot, monsters, dungeons, and lots of nerd culture-based humor showing just how fun tabletop role-playing might get, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first week.

Daniel was one of those guys, who will argue with everyone for a chance to re-roll their character's stats. He would secretly add "+1"s to his equipment sheet when nobody was looking. Sometimes, he would "accidentally" knock down a cup of Slurpee on the table just to rearrange the characters setting on the map. And, boy, was he good at it! Maybe he had superior stealth stats and no one ever noticed his meddling, or maybe everyone thought that arguing with "that guy" was pointless. The important thing was: Daniel rocked tabletop role-playing. At least in his own opinion. But then, one dark night, as he left the table only for a moment, he was transported into a dark and ominous castle taken straight from a Game Master's most sadistic dream. Daniel would have to muster all of his skills and tricks to handle this ordeal. But, after all, he WAS the ultimate munchkin!

Unepic is a exploration and loot-based fantasy platformer that in its core is the ultimate tribute to pen-and-paper role-playing and nerdom. The number of times the game winks at fantasy gaming fans, TV show followers, bookworms, and gamers is simply uncountable. You will explore a huge set of dangerous stages with varied environments, vast selection of monsters, and even more incredible equipment to find and utilize against your foes. The GOG.com version even comes with some exclusive items, unavailable anywhere else!

If the way of the munchkin is your preferred approach to tabletop RPGs, if you appreciate nerd-culture references, if you love loot above everything else, it's time for you to start exploring the realm of Unepic, for only $4.99 on GOG.com! The launch offer lasts until Tuesday, May 28, at 9:59AM GMT.

mcneil_1: This game is pretty good, somehow the rpg group in the intro movie reminds me of my rpg group
XD I think that was the point. Everything the guy says I keep thinking, 'Reminds me of me'. Adds a nice element of realism to the game.

franfistro: Really? OMG! Did you post your problem in the Unepic forum?
Either way, I found the forum nearly a year later.

I was about to post but then it dawned on me:

It was only for the principle that I was chasing down the key.

With the stack of games I've acquired over the past four years there is absolutely no way I would ever find the time to load up UnEpic again even if I lived for another century.

It also dawned on me that gaming is a "Lose Some You Shouldn't / Win Some You Shouldn't" hobby so I put the petty calculator away and rolled on.

Dungeon Gate has recently bit me.
EA has snagged me on a couple of occasions.
I would say that I'm possession of at least twenty or so dead games.
But for the most part it's my fault for leaping before I look.

carnival73: Nope this was way back.

If I remember correctly I tried via a mail link, Twitter and in the 'Review' section on UnEpic's game page at Indievania.

Actually twice by mail, I believe, the second time was because a friend handed me an excess bundle key from Royal so I wrote to see if there was some way I could permanently unlock the Desura copy instead of worrying about the locked copy I had back at Indievania.

After that UnEpic disappeared from my Desura library for awhile and just turned up again a few days before it was released here.

I'm not sure if the developer had pulled it or if it was Desura (sometimes only a portion of the library loads and will stay like that for awhile but when you've got over a hundred copies of bundle fodder in your libary it's too much of a headache to keep track of the games not loading on varous occassions.).
Oh I see. If you have any problem, feel free to report it in the unepic forum (www.unepicgame.com). I see it every day. A missing serial is the easiest thing to fix and people who had this problem had it solved the same day. :-)

concerning Desura, not sure why it disappeared from your library, but I don't remember removing the game.

inc09nito: Isn't it on sale like now? o.O
I hadn't noticed, but you're right; so I'll wait for a bigger sale.

I bought the game directly from the dev's website a few months ago, I would have bought it on GOG then but since they (apparently) rejected the game I wasn't able to, and that means they lost most of my money on this. Besides, benefits of buying a game on GOG (for me) are the DRM free-ness and the ease of centralized download, what's the point of any of those when I still have it installed from the original installer?

Not my type of game. I'm kind of tired of all the cartoony graphics of today's games, and always trying an attempt of today's humour. After seeing Anvil of Dawn being released last week, I was blown away. Amidst all these cartoony games, was this macho Barbarian game.

It's how the majority of this community is. If you don't like an olde game, they'll do what they can to make you look bad. Give a thoughtful review for a popular game you don't like, prepare to have 0 likes and 300 dislikes. Don't blend in with them, they'll call you names. I've seen some bad stuff on this forum before, I'm not sure why it's tolerated. Sad that people want to be so mean over video games.

Isn't a true role-playing game one that is turn-based, that is based off the role-playing board games? I always thought that's what they were, something like Star Trail or Temple of Elemental Evil. The developers back in the 1980's actually called their games a "true role-playing" game, and use to talk about how no one makes them. Were the developers back in the 1980's wrong?

Nowadays, people call Mass Effect a true role-playing game and a ComputerRPG masterpiece. I guess Unepic is also considered a true role-playing game nowadays?

People baffle me.

Welcome to my world
Won't you come on in
Miracles I guess
Still happen now and then

Step into my heart
Leave your cares behind
Welcome to my world
Built with you in mind

Knock and the door will open
Seek and you will find
Ask and you'll be given
The key to this world of mine

I'll be waiting here
With my arms unfurled
Waiting just for you
Welcome to my world

You write that? Nice.

These people need to learn from me. I lose 5 points a day and it's not because of what I post it's because I complain about it.

On a side note I've been working on some flexibility exercises so pretty soon I hope I'll be able to kiss my own dick, cut out the middle man. :D

Anyone else think it's strange watching Unepic race up the bestselling list? It already left about half of GOG's catalogue behind, in just a few days. Wouldn't have expected this.

I'm thinking having it initially 50% off certainly helped.

It's the nudity.

Yes, I know, but I still think it's strange though (even if I bought it myself). Might be a sign that it is a good strategy to sell your game at a higher price point and sell it with a discount right from the beginning or at least more often. Wizardry 6+7 is sold for just $1 more, it's a real classic (or even two) and still it is by far not selling as many units as Unepic.

It being a good game may also have influenced the sales.
