A true role-playing platformer experience that will unleash your inner munchkin.

Unepic, an awesome RPG/platformer full of loot, monsters, dungeons, and lots of nerd culture-based humor showing just how fun tabletop role-playing might get, is available 50% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.99 for the first week.

Daniel was one of those guys, who will argue with everyone for a chance to re-roll their character's stats. He would secretly add "+1"s to his equipment sheet when nobody was looking. Sometimes, he would "accidentally" knock down a cup of Slurpee on the table just to rearrange the characters setting on the map. And, boy, was he good at it! Maybe he had superior stealth stats and no one ever noticed his meddling, or maybe everyone thought that arguing with "that guy" was pointless. The important thing was: Daniel rocked tabletop role-playing. At least in his own opinion. But then, one dark night, as he left the table only for a moment, he was transported into a dark and ominous castle taken straight from a Game Master's most sadistic dream. Daniel would have to muster all of his skills and tricks to handle this ordeal. But, after all, he WAS the ultimate munchkin!

Unepic is a exploration and loot-based fantasy platformer that in its core is the ultimate tribute to pen-and-paper role-playing and nerdom. The number of times the game winks at fantasy gaming fans, TV show followers, bookworms, and gamers is simply uncountable. You will explore a huge set of dangerous stages with varied environments, vast selection of monsters, and even more incredible equipment to find and utilize against your foes. The GOG.com version even comes with some exclusive items, unavailable anywhere else!

If the way of the munchkin is your preferred approach to tabletop RPGs, if you appreciate nerd-culture references, if you love loot above everything else, it's time for you to start exploring the realm of Unepic, for only $4.99 on GOG.com! The launch offer lasts until Tuesday, May 28, at 9:59AM GMT.
Not warranting a thread in the dedicated forum, so asking here :

Doesn't all that respawning allow for easy grind ?

carnival73: I was an original supporter and got my copy from Indievania. I'm still waiting for my unlock key. XD
Really? OMG! Did you post your problem in the Unepic forum?

ErekoseDM: how are the 'one time/ one use codes' for the bonus weapons being done in this version?
or is everything unlockable within the game without add on purchases?

Immoli: Anyone have an answer to this?
Online challenges and special items was something extra I did lat year. By doing any of the 15 challenges (hidden in the castle) you earned "unepic coins" that could be used to download special items. All this is runs through the web of Unepic and the player must be registered.

As the GOG version is DRM-free, and inserting a "registration" panel could be confused with a DRM (like it happened in Indie Royale), we decided to avoid any registration from the GOG version. Then this extra, like any other oinline feature, is disabled.

If you are interested in those extra items and challenges, you can always download the standard version from the web (www.unepicgame.com) and use the serial you have been provided with to unlock it (it is not DRM-free) and then use any online feature like challenges, special items, multiplayer and uploading scores.

Concerning add on purchases, the main way to obtain hose credits is by doing challenges in the game. The possibility of purchasing credits using real money was an idea of someone in the forum: "a way to buy those credits for those who are lazy like me". :-)

keeveek: Maybe this royale ring was exclusivety deal for unlimited period of time (what would be stupid, but it's indie devs we're talking about)
Yes, it was deal for unlimited period of time, like new GOG items. (that is stupid but I'm this indie dev that you are talking about) ;-)
Unepic sure found a solid spot on the Top Sellers list quickly.

Buenro-games: Sorry, but not to be callous, a game should be bought based on its merits and not the travails of the person(s) involved in creating it. Business isn't charity. If someone spends one year living in a cave and eating roots to develop a game, and the game is a turd, I sure as hell not going to buy it just because of the hardships of the creator. I am not talking about this game at all, since I am surprised it's made by one single person since it looks very nice. But still, to somehow include the situation of the creator as an incentive to buy, is probably what keeps Uwe Boll still butchering video game stories.
Well that's your opinion, which you're entitled to. I disagree.

Psyringe: I'm not sure if these questions have been answered before (this thread is moving really fast), so sorry if it's a repeat question. There were two things that bothered me with Unepic, have those been fixed? I'm talking about:

1. The game used to phone home and require online authentication. Afterwards there was a bundle version that was playable without online authentication, but still required it to get all the features. Has this been removed in the GOG version, and can this game now be experienced completely without the need of online authentication? Is it really DRM-free now?

2. The game was barely playable on large resolutions. Instead of using the whole screen, it put black bars on all four sides, and the objects on the screen ended up too tiny. Does the game use the entire screen now?
1. The GOG.com version doesn't require any sort of authentication nor does it require you to be online to play it. There were some challenges but in our version those are removed. I know this for a fact because in the very first room of the mines once you go past the falling borders and the rooms with the floating eyes, there was a spot where you could activate an online challenge. This is no longer there. Also, my firewall never popped up and informed me that Unepic was attempting to access the internet and it usually does for most games. The code you get in your My Account page can be used to unlock a version of Unepic with the online challenges and other features that require you to be online, if you so choose.

2. I played it on my home computer and the Full Screen option was just that: full screen with no black bars and I run my desktop at 1920X1200.

Hope that helps :D.
I should have asked this earlier, but does the GOG version include the dubs? I know there were dubs in Spanish, at least, I played it with them when I bought it a few months ago, but they were a separate download. I won't instabuy it again even if it is included, but I think I'll get the GOG version once it goes on sale.
WOW Great! Was hoping to buy this soon with no drm. Yay . Fun game
by the way. Glad gog got it.
I thought GOG gave a thumbs down to this game. I'm glad they changed their minds and it's here. Wishlisted!

Nope this was way back.

If I remember correctly I tried via a mail link, Twitter and in the 'Review' section on UnEpic's game page at Indievania.

Actually twice by mail, I believe, the second time was because a friend handed me an excess bundle key from Royal so I wrote to see if there was some way I could permanently unlock the Desura copy instead of worrying about the locked copy I had back at Indievania.

After that UnEpic disappeared from my Desura library for awhile and just turned up again a few days before it was released here.

I'm not sure if the developer had pulled it or if it was Desura (sometimes only a portion of the library loads and will stay like that for awhile but when you've got over a hundred copies of bundle fodder in your libary it's too much of a headache to keep track of the games not loading on varous occassions.).

Alright, after giving this game a shot I guess I can take what I said earlier back

even if the premise is absolutely ridiculous this turned out to be pretty fun, so I guess it's a pleasant surprise for me, nice game overall.

People who downrepped my original post can STILL kiss my dick though and if you like dicks, you can kiss my ass instead, anyone who downreps another person simply because of a different opinion can leave this website right now
This game is pretty good, somehow the rpg group in the intro movie reminds me of my rpg group
