The CIA, the NSA, the Russians, and the shadowy Third Echelon are involved in a complicated plot--and only Sam Fisher can straighten it out.

The first game of phenomenal action sneaking series Splinter Cell creeps onto the GOG.com catalog today for just $9.99!

Something is up in Russia, and it doesn’t look good. Rumors of shadowy deals, illicit collusion, and dark plans abound, so the US government turns to their secret “wet ops” specialists: the Third Echelon. You’re Sam Fisher, former retired SEAL and new member of a Splinter Cell, a secret government-backed team that exists in no book, has no paper trail, and is completely disavowed if you’re ever caught. You’re sent in to investigate some ominous rumors in Georgia, Russia, and you must succeed in uncovering the plot and saving the nation--or die trying. No pressure, right?

Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell was an incredible arrival in the action-sneaker genre when it showed up in 2002: it had a fantastic plot that read like a techno-thriller from genre master Tom Clancy, the gameplay’s emphasis on light and shadow, high-tech toys, and careful planning interspersed with bursts of lethal action, and the impressive Unreal Engine 2 graphics all made this game a blockbuster success. Winner of multiple awards across a number of platforms, this initial entry in the series has all of the great gameplay elements that fans of the genre will love: Fisher’s acrobatic abilities to jump, mantle, and split jump; his assortment of lethal and non-lethal weapons, and the story that feels like it was ripped from today’s headlines--which isn’t bad given that the game is a decade old!

Save the America today for just $9.99 on GOG.com!

F4LL0UT: Gotta love GOG. Just two or three months ago I was pissed because I noticed that the Steam release was missing the bonus missions. I was almost sure that they won't be featured in the GOG release either but DANG! Well, that's just GOG for ya.

Kamikave: Glad I didn't buy it on steam. I never knew there were bonus missions. There's something like 11 missions in the game I own. So does that make it 13 ?
If 11 missions is the right number for the main game then this would make 14 missions with the bonus content (it's obviously three additional missions ;)).

It's apparently possible to get them working on the Steam version, although it requires more work than I'd recommend for the average user I think ^^
Just when I was thinking about getting it, too...
Oh Lord!
I've never played any Splinter Cell game (although I own Double Agent), but I'm really glad GOG is releasing Ubisoft games. No DRM for us all!
I just don't know if I buy it now or later. I've already bought so many games and have never even installed most of them... (damn digital distribution!! :D )
It's a good game. Not as good as Chaos Theory. But deserves some respect for starting Splinter Cell off so well.

I might be interested in Pandora Tomorrow. I know it's supposed to not be as good. But the version I had of it was broken and even managed to delete a chunk of Windows during uninstall. Suffice to say I never installed that again. But I'm sure that GOG's installer won't be so utterly hopeless.
Did they fix the lighting issues? Newer graphic cards don't use the same lighting techniques older ones did.

On the steam version the guards flashlights don't appear. On the level where you have to move around mines on the ground the spotlights don't show up.
Holy Shazbot! What a great release. Hope you guys get the other games!

It's a good game but if you're not sure about it and you have plenty of others to be getting on with then why not play those first? This'll likely end up on sale Christmas at the latest and then you can get it cheaper and if you don't like it, well at least you didn't pay so much.
for what it's worth, I like this game much. the whole storylines of the splinter cell games are awesome, really thrilling and even the first game in this series has great graphics. Hiding the corpses is difficult in one or two missions, but i never really had any problems with that. that's real life! ;-) you just *have* to find the deepest shadows possible to hide them.

the price is indeed a little high, but from reading this thread, it's Ubisoft to blame, and from what i gather, it's Ubisoft to blame for anything else anyway! so it's all good, GOG. very nice release! :-)
Excellent release to an excellent franchise. I'm giving this one a miss since I feel chaos theory is the most polished, interesting, thrilling and outranks it's predecessors by far. Finished it once and that's good enough.

Looking forward to the release of PT and CT though, I'd love them DRM free!! ;)

$10 for Splinter Cell 1? Lofl, people are fucking goofy. You can get the collection for $15.
A game like this should be $3. Notice that GOG introduced all knds of new price points, but no cheaper ones or bundles?
