<span class="bold">[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_witcher_2]The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the RPG Game of the Year 2011, gets a free update to Enhanced Edition, that packs a bigger punch than any DLC you’ll never have to pay for.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and have never heard about The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, it is “One of the best role-playing games in years”, “One of the most memorable and best written fantasy video games you'll ever play”, an RPG “You can't afford to miss”, because it “Redefines expectations for an entire genre”. Today, the final definitive version of the game is made available as a free update jam-packed with new features, upgrades, and extras.

To celebrate The Witcher 2’s glorious return we’re offering the game with a 15% discount off the full Enhanced Edition price of $49.99, so it’s $42.49 for the next three weeks. This special promo lasts until 7 May 2012 23:59 Central European Summer Time. Additionally, The first game in the series, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, will be available for 50% off (that’s just $4.99!) until 23 April 2012 at 23.59 Central European Summer Time.

The Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2 features new locations, like the underground system of chambers beneath Loc Muine and a temperate forest in the Loc Muine mountains. A batch of new characters is introduced to the Witcher storyline. All new cinematics and cut scenes expand upon the story, including a new three and a half minute pre-rendered cinematic depicting the assassination of King Demavend of Aedirn, created by BAFTA Award winner and Academy Award nominee Tomasz Baginski.

In additon to more than 4 hours of extra gameplay, improved graphics, new characters, locations, quests, 36 minutes of new cinematics, GOG.com has added the Witcher comic book, new game map, game guide, manual, and soundtrack to your free goodies list, simply because we love you.

Note: This upgrade is available to everyone who has bought The Witcher 2, not just folks who bought it from GOG.com. The upgrade will be free to download from now until a few days after the apocalypse, and is available through the in-game launcher. Note that for faster connections and better error checking, we strongly recommend that you download your new copy of the Enhanced Edition through the GOG.com downloader

In addition to all of this great stuff, we're also running a contest here on GOG.com! It's been a long time since our last fun contest, so we thought we'd challenge you to make a cool, clever, or humorous poster or t-shirt design about The Witcher, Geralt, or anything related to the setting that you think would look great on your wall or your self. This contest will be open all week (until 23.59 Central European Summer Time--which 17.59 Eastern Daylight Time) for you to come up with something clever and amaze us all. Attach your entry to your post--or else post it on an image sharing service and link to it in your post. Once the contest is over, the GOG.com team will look at your entries and pick our favorites to receive a free game of the artists' choice from our catalog!

Spread the word around and show us what you've got in a post on this thread! Happy 'Shooping!
Well, here is my entry for the contest!

Its basically a digital Ukyo-e painting of our protagonist in his Witcher 2 self. I always wanted to try this style on this character since he's so western and stuff, I had to use square lines compared to the female Japanese ukyo-e paintings. The eye design is pretty common and generic for Ukyo-e but I guess Its fine for this one.

The file was reduced 50% of size, it was made to be printed on a A4 page and look awesome on a wall behind a glass...but Its about 8MB on a compressed JPG.

Just in case, I'm uploading the pic on my server too, its here, but use it only if you cant see the tinypic link:

So that's it! :D

So I fired up the trusty Paint and managed to do this. Might be worn by those of the bartending profession or other bargoers. Why not anyone else, too.

The font on the front could have the same nice shade of grey as the logo on the back, but my tools and skills were lacking.

Good luck to everyone for the contest!

I would actually buy that, winner for me so far :)
The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142)' or similar

Sadly does not work and its not a Net-framework issue as the
http://en.thewitcher.com/support/#q34 says so sad the game seems busted on my P.C yet it used to be fine.

Thank you.

MajicMan: Does the PC version of W2EE support the 360 controller and offer the Xbox 360 UI as an option or is the PC version mouse and keyboard only and the Xbox 360 version controller only?
avatar
barleyguy: The PC version (enhanced or not) supports XBox 360 controllers as well as keyboard and mouse.
Thank you for the free Enhanced Edition update GOG/CDProjectRED!

The Witcher 2 is an absolutely amazing game, and it's now looking even better than before. The graphical tweaks really improved the lighting effects, and I love that there are now more animals running around. It brings the world to life just a little bit more. I can't praise this game enough or the great customer service.

Try uninstalling and reinstalling with the fully patched download.
I'm really super unclear on what exactly I need to do to get the enhanced version if I already have Witcher 2 installed. Surely you're not suggesting we redownload the entire 16GB game?

Because that's exactly how I interpret "we strongly recommend that you download your new copy of the Enhanced Edition through the GOG.com downloader".

The game's launcher should have the option to patch it to the latest version, which I think is a 10GB download by itself (might be wrong on this one). Thus you have the option of downloading the patch only, or downloading the full installer. If you do decide to download the full installer, best to use the downloader.

The launcher does not give me an option to patch anything, nor is there any kind of auto-update facility that I can see. I just reinstalled the game from the original 16GB download of TW2 from GOG to a brand new folder. When I launched the game, it automatically did an "Activation patch" but it went by so fast I can't imagine this is the enhanced version. The launcher for TW2 that comes up does not say anything about version 2.0, or enhanced, or anything like that. The only download-like option is for "Downloadable content" and that is greyed-out and disabled, so I can't click it anyway. The options on my launcher are...

Launch Game
Video and language
Downloadable content* (can't select this)
Register game
View Readme file
View manual
www.thewitcher.com

and that's it. I thought I'd click on the "Register game" link to see what would happen, but I would guess the game is already registered with my GOG account. I briefly installed the game when I originally bought it, and if I had an account on "witcher.com" I forgot it. I clicked the "Forgot my password" link but I'm not getting an email from GOG tonight, so I guess I'll have to wait for that email to see what the next step is?

UPDATE: OK, I think I'm getting the download now. What I forgot about was... there was another patch last year, that says "patcher v1.0 to v1.3" that I forgot about. I installed that patch, and then it automatically detected a "patch_EE" which was about 9.9GB and it is downloading that now. Hope that's it!

tritone: snip...
Don't currently have the game on this computer, so I can't verify the version of the game. If the setup files had some numbers after it (setup_the_witcher_2_1.73.xxx) or equivalent, it should be the Enhanced Edition. In any case, the link for the manual patch download can be found here, along with a warning that it is 11 to 16 GB, depending on languages downloaded.
Apologies for the wrong information provided above, but I still think it would be better if you just downloaded the installers from scratch.
