<span class="bold">[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_witcher_2]The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the RPG Game of the Year 2011, gets a free update to Enhanced Edition, that packs a bigger punch than any DLC you’ll never have to pay for.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and have never heard about The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, it is “One of the best role-playing games in years”, “One of the most memorable and best written fantasy video games you'll ever play”, an RPG “You can't afford to miss”, because it “Redefines expectations for an entire genre”. Today, the final definitive version of the game is made available as a free update jam-packed with new features, upgrades, and extras.

To celebrate The Witcher 2’s glorious return we’re offering the game with a 15% discount off the full Enhanced Edition price of $49.99, so it’s $42.49 for the next three weeks. This special promo lasts until 7 May 2012 23:59 Central European Summer Time. Additionally, The first game in the series, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, will be available for 50% off (that’s just $4.99!) until 23 April 2012 at 23.59 Central European Summer Time.

The Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2 features new locations, like the underground system of chambers beneath Loc Muine and a temperate forest in the Loc Muine mountains. A batch of new characters is introduced to the Witcher storyline. All new cinematics and cut scenes expand upon the story, including a new three and a half minute pre-rendered cinematic depicting the assassination of King Demavend of Aedirn, created by BAFTA Award winner and Academy Award nominee Tomasz Baginski.

In additon to more than 4 hours of extra gameplay, improved graphics, new characters, locations, quests, 36 minutes of new cinematics, GOG.com has added the Witcher comic book, new game map, game guide, manual, and soundtrack to your free goodies list, simply because we love you.

Note: This upgrade is available to everyone who has bought The Witcher 2, not just folks who bought it from GOG.com. The upgrade will be free to download from now until a few days after the apocalypse, and is available through the in-game launcher. Note that for faster connections and better error checking, we strongly recommend that you download your new copy of the Enhanced Edition through the GOG.com downloader

In addition to all of this great stuff, we're also running a contest here on GOG.com! It's been a long time since our last fun contest, so we thought we'd challenge you to make a cool, clever, or humorous poster or t-shirt design about The Witcher, Geralt, or anything related to the setting that you think would look great on your wall or your self. This contest will be open all week (until 23.59 Central European Summer Time--which 17.59 Eastern Daylight Time) for you to come up with something clever and amaze us all. Attach your entry to your post--or else post it on an image sharing service and link to it in your post. Once the contest is over, the GOG.com team will look at your entries and pick our favorites to receive a free game of the artists' choice from our catalog!

Spread the word around and show us what you've got in a post on this thread! Happy 'Shooping!

mgol: How did you know about this backup copy at all? :)
They've mentioned it in the conference.;)
Hurray! HURRAY!
I bought the Witcher 2 quite a while ago, didn't have time to play it for some time, and just when I was ready to start the adventure GoG announced the coming of an enhanced edition. So I just waited.
I'm so glad I found the will to stay a Witcher 2 virgin until today :P

GOG does it again!

grviper: What? I only want a convenient single fire installer, that won't need further updates. There are already fresh threads about some possible issues in W2 forums, so expecting a patch or a clarification (like "drivers! update them!") is only natural.
and that's exactly what the GOG edition of The Witcher 2 EE is. i just claimed my free GOG backup copy, downloaded the 15GB install files, and it installed the latest edition of the game (some 22GB).

i figure, since the EE patch alone is 10GB, you might as well download the entire game (15GB) and install without your disc. no need for additional installs or patches.
So this is today's new release then? Fair enough..

I am disappoint. :(

tswijaya: Just want to confirm...
I've already patched Witcher 2 to version 2.1 in my system, so to update it to EE version with English language I need to download Enhanced Edition Update (36 links) and EE English Language pack (5 links)

Is there any way to download the EE patch using the GOG downloader?
It looks like it, yes. Regarding downloading it via the GOG downloader, not unless you download the full installer from your My Games page.

Edit:

If the large download is a problem, contact GOG Support to double-check and verify what exactly you DO need to download.

Done. I have finished a poster design with Gerald. Hope you like it. Gerald is standing on the dock facing the water at night. This is my personal interpretation: in many cultures water is a symbol for life itself but also purity and fertility and night is a symbol of losing faith, so basically when Gerald is losing his faith in himself, he is striving for a normal life. The message I would like to send is to stop wondering why you are here and not elsewhere and try to use your condition to make something great. Everyone is different and has weaknesses, but just some overcome their state. I would like to hear other interpretations from you guys. Thank you.

theadam: We have this saying in Poland, not sure if equivalent exists in English: 'Lend one a hand, they'll bite your arm off'. CDPR has always provided impressive support to its customers.
Yup, "lend them a hand, they'll take the arm.", and a few variations of it.
Thank you gog! amazing gift!

Zoidberg: Wow... GOG more expensive than STEAM? :/

I am dissapoint.

d2t: What? The Witcher 2 EE on GOG.com is $42.49. The Witcher 2 EE on Steam in $42.49 as well or even more (EU version is 33.99 EUR and that is around 44,50 USD)
Mmh, seems I got mixed up in the different prizes: they're more or less the same.

Zoidberg: So much for free DLC... :/

theadam: Oh come on. They said in the beginning: free DLC, paid real extra content. (hopefully a mission pack soon to be realeased :D) They never charged you for a "horse armor". They gave DLC of a better quality (like extra quests etc.) for free. The price hasn't changed with The Witcher 2.0. Everybody that had the game still gets all the updates for free, INCLUDING Enhanced Edition. So will everyone who will buy the new version now - they will still be entitled to updates (if still any come up).

They say free then up the price before putting up a sale...

Seems a bit strange to me...

I'd love for them to keep their word and stay "true" to themselves and what they promised.

I'm more or less fine with them anyway (pre-ordered Witcher 2).

Give credit where it's due, this game was released at midnight Poland time, around 10 - 11 PM (if i'm not mistaken). That still not included the amount of time they spent to fixed the backup function and server afterward. They worked overtime just because of this grand release, i'm sure Enigmatic still in his bed.

Wow, I had been considering purchasing W2, but I guess I'll be waiting quite a bit longer now. I might have gotten it if it had gone on sale for the same price it was around Christmas, but I'm sure not going to pay a sale price that's more than the regular price was yesterday. Oh well, I've got plenty of games to play while I wait for the price to start traveling in the other direction.
