<span class="bold">[url=http://www.gog.com/en/gamecard/the_witcher_2]The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, the RPG Game of the Year 2011, gets a free update to Enhanced Edition, that packs a bigger punch than any DLC you’ll never have to pay for.

In case you’ve been living under a rock and have never heard about The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, it is “One of the best role-playing games in years”, “One of the most memorable and best written fantasy video games you'll ever play”, an RPG “You can't afford to miss”, because it “Redefines expectations for an entire genre”. Today, the final definitive version of the game is made available as a free update jam-packed with new features, upgrades, and extras.

To celebrate The Witcher 2’s glorious return we’re offering the game with a 15% discount off the full Enhanced Edition price of $49.99, so it’s $42.49 for the next three weeks. This special promo lasts until 7 May 2012 23:59 Central European Summer Time. Additionally, The first game in the series, The Witcher Enhanced Edition, will be available for 50% off (that’s just $4.99!) until 23 April 2012 at 23.59 Central European Summer Time.

The Enhanced Edition of The Witcher 2 features new locations, like the underground system of chambers beneath Loc Muine and a temperate forest in the Loc Muine mountains. A batch of new characters is introduced to the Witcher storyline. All new cinematics and cut scenes expand upon the story, including a new three and a half minute pre-rendered cinematic depicting the assassination of King Demavend of Aedirn, created by BAFTA Award winner and Academy Award nominee Tomasz Baginski.

In additon to more than 4 hours of extra gameplay, improved graphics, new characters, locations, quests, 36 minutes of new cinematics, GOG.com has added the Witcher comic book, new game map, game guide, manual, and soundtrack to your free goodies list, simply because we love you.

Note: This upgrade is available to everyone who has bought The Witcher 2, not just folks who bought it from GOG.com. The upgrade will be free to download from now until a few days after the apocalypse, and is available through the in-game launcher. Note that for faster connections and better error checking, we strongly recommend that you download your new copy of the Enhanced Edition through the GOG.com downloader

In addition to all of this great stuff, we're also running a contest here on GOG.com! It's been a long time since our last fun contest, so we thought we'd challenge you to make a cool, clever, or humorous poster or t-shirt design about The Witcher, Geralt, or anything related to the setting that you think would look great on your wall or your self. This contest will be open all week (until 23.59 Central European Summer Time--which 17.59 Eastern Daylight Time) for you to come up with something clever and amaze us all. Attach your entry to your post--or else post it on an image sharing service and link to it in your post. Once the contest is over, the GOG.com team will look at your entries and pick our favorites to receive a free game of the artists' choice from our catalog!

Spread the word around and show us what you've got in a post on this thread! Happy 'Shooping!

marcusmaximus: I find it off putting that they raised the price of the game and trying to make it sound like it is a deal even if it comes with a bunch of extras and more hours of gameplay.
avatar
theadam: If you pay them early you get the free update. They have added new content (it must have been a lot of work) and all the early adopters get it for free. New customers have to pay a slightly higher price if they didn't support the developer earlier, that's how I see it. They paying more and getting more.
The thing is that Steam didn't raised the price for the EE. It's 39.99€ (and I think someone mentioned it's 39.99$) while in GOG is 49.99$.

yes they did

us price - http://store.steampowered.com/app/20920/?cc=us
eu price - http://store.steampowered.com/app/20920/?cc=pl

33.99 eur is 44,55 usd, so its even more expensive on steam for some of us (42.49 use on gog)

21.10gb? English only language so.... bigger than the main game. What the hell? I'm tempted by it but I live in the UK and we have shit internet and bandwidth caps, this'd take me a lonnnng time to download. I was holding out getting back into The Witcher 2 till the patch too. Why the huge size?
Wow... GOG more expensive than STEAM? :/

I am dissapoint.

Even funner for me. Roughly 10gb for the patch files only to get a goddamn error on trying to install it. Basically the last 2 days of downloading just to have to do it again.

Tormentfan: Because as far as I am concerned it takes what should be universally considered a mature and thoughful experience and gives it a gutter level spin. It's childish and tacky.
avatar
bazilisek: I'm with you on that one. It's the same as the pin-up calendar they gave out with the first game; I don't particularly enjoy being treated like a horny trucker.

On the one hand, they go on and on about making mature games, and on the other they do something like this which is the very definition of immature. Yeah, it's part of the Witcher universe, I guess. Which is one of the reasons why I hate the Witcher universe.

I absolutely don't mind nudity, as long as there is a reason for it other than "ZOMG TITS".
I think it'c cool we are getting all the little bits and pieces related to the game like lots of other games and its a separate file so you dont even need to download it... (and is it really that bad? Theres lots of other game characters who have featured in Playboy...)

I've had that with everything I've downloaded off of gamersgate lately >_< 3 downloads of Arma 2: OA at just under 8gb each and still corrupted parts. Eventually I spliced together files from all 3 to get one working copy. Only seems to be with anything I download from gamersgate (cities in motion and buggy from there did the same but downloaded others elsewhere.)

How does the fact that I don't need to download it (which I'm well aware of, thank you very much) change its tastelessness?

But I don't want to derail this thread too much, as this really is something that applies to the whole Witcher universe and the mindset it's based on, which I find genuinely offensive. But that's probably Sapkowski's fault as much as of the guys of CDP Red who decided to play along. If you can stomach this kind of thing, good for you, but I can't.
Nvm. Saw that previous poster with the same issue.

Well If you find this tasteless then never go to female life drawing...

"How does the fact that I don't need to download it change its tastelessness?" Because you can just ignore it... Doesn't change your life any bit at all

Oh come on. They said in the beginning: free DLC, paid real extra content. (hopefully a mission pack soon to be realeased :D) They never charged you for a "horse armor". They gave DLC of a better quality (like extra quests etc.) for free. The price hasn't changed with The Witcher 2.0. Everybody that had the game still gets all the updates for free, INCLUDING Enhanced Edition. So will everyone who will buy the new version now - they will still be entitled to updates (if still any come up).

We have this saying in Poland, not sure if equivalent exists in English: 'Lend one a hand, they'll bite your arm off'. CDPR has always provided impressive support to its customers.
Can we get a code now to redeem on Steam? Because I preordered the game on GOG and now if I would have bought it on Steam instead I would have a GOG and Steam version now. -.-

They don't sell Steam codes. Steam doesn't sell GOG codes. Those are separate services and GOG is just awesome to offer their backup for free anyway. The way I see this it's a reason to support them, not Steam :)

You want to know what I think of supporting GOG?

There is the answer.
