It's a human ant colony!

The Settlers 4: Gold Edition, a charming civilization-building strategy classic true to its roots and full of micro-managing goodness, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Looking at an anthill one can't help to admire the excellent workflow managment the little insects so effortlessly achieve. Something that's entirely out of reach for any human corporation, community, nor army comes absolutely natural to them. Every ant seems to know its exact place in the big scheme and in any given moment it does exactly what it's supposed to be doing. Now imagine, that it's not an anthill you're looking at, but a human settlement, and it's not the insect hive mind in control but you. Kind of makes you drunk with power, right? Well snap out of it, cause the ominous Dark Tribe is coming to obliterate everything that's good in your realm and it's up to you to lead the Romans, Mayans, Vikings, and Trojans in the struggle against the invader.

The Settlers 4: Gold Edition is everything you would expect from a Settlers game and more! The brilliant mechanics of managing and expanding your settlements by the hands of little virtual villagers are still there, as enjoyable as ever. This time, however, the game comes with a number of useful tweaks such as a seamless zoom feature giving you better overview of your realm. This installment offers higher resolution support so that game can be more detailed than ever. The Gold Edition comes with two expansions: The Trojans and the Elixir of Power, adding another playable nation and its campaign, and a Mission CD with a great selection of scenarios and a random map generator. With this edition, there can be no end to your fun with your tiny obedient subjects.

If you like the Settlers series you simply can't miss this title. If you're not familiar with it, The Settlers 4: Gold Edition is a perfect entry point to the Settlers universe, available for only $9.99 on GOG.com.

RS1978: ... I absolutely second that! Two strategy games in one week, who shall play these? Give us more Adventures, dear GOGgers! :)
No, no. There isn't by far not enough strategy out here and I really, really need more of it. Adventures however I still have enough unplayed ones (Deponia series) and I guess (with 95% certainty) there is at least one adventures with more than 4 star rating here that you haven't played yet. :)
I'm actually probably going to get this just to get using the cd out of the way. Maybe I'll beg someone for it; I won't feel so bad paying $20 for the disc three weeks ago if someone gives me the GOG version now. :-)

They did it again? Why on earth Settlers games have expansions only in foreign languages... Settlers 2 10th anniversary also had an expansion but it was released only in Polish and Russian, or something like that.
Speaking of BlueByte, when can we expect Albion to appear on GOG? :P

I am no expert but maybe those countries were the best markets for expansions? Money would be the logical explanation, in my humble opinion.

The New World expansion was awesome, as it featured brand new tropical textures... It is possible to play a english version with the new textures, though.

I did recently buy the Community Pack, and though the missions are awesome, what got my eye there was that the trojans got a"new"track. Already contacted GOG about that... Let's hope for them to include it on their version!

Anyway, it is possible to play The New World with an english version of the game. Have yet to try the Community pack.

Oh, there's even more! There is a full Settlers game only released in Germany; Rise of Cultures. Based on Settlers 10th Anniversary, with some features from Settlers 3, it features the babarians, egyptians and scottsmen.

Yeah, it was the era when digital market wasn't even a dream yet, so you're absolutely right. still sucks there wasn't English language, we could've get them now ;-(
So this topic appears to have eaten post =S

Any way, about bloody time. This was of course an instant purchase. The third time I have bought it.

I would think that the one language you'd be able to sell the most expansions for would be English. But then my perception is probably skewed by the fact that I'm Scandinavian.

keeveek: Great release, but you made this mostly a strategy week. You could've released Legend of Kyrandia or Conflict: Desert Storm for other people, if you know what I mean ;) ;)
We already have Conflict: Desert Storm here. :)

Yeah, I was thinking about Desert Storm 2, but my brain malfunctioned for a second :P

There's probably some kind of legal tie-up. I asked Thomas Hertzler, who was producer of Albion, and he said that as far as he knows, Ubisoft has the rights to the game.

A good old games week! Awesome. At first I thought $10 was too much for this game, but given that it comes with 2 expansions and the OST, I can understand the price.

Take for instance a very obscure game in the late 90s(no online distribution to the great market), which apart from your own country(let's say Italy) is only liked in... Russia(?).

You make a second installment in the series. The best option back then would've been to only translate it to russian and ship it there. Shipping it to other countries would've not payed off.

That way the situation of Settlers before Heritage of Kings; it was enjoyed in some european countries like Germany or Poland, but not on other countries, so they didn't translate the last expansion packs. I mean, even here in Germany, the Community Pack for Settlers IV and the german-only game(Rise of Cultures) are pretty rare ans obscure(though pretty cheap on ebay).

That's at least how I see it.
