The Dark Eye gazes upon you!

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav, a classic adventure game with gorgeous hand-drawn graphics, set in a gritty fantasy world, is now available on GOG.com for only $14.99. That's 25% off until next Thursday, November 29, at 10:59AM GMT.

The world might be filled with magic, but for the ordinary folk it's still an obscure and frightening force. In everyday life there are only little sparks of mystical powers present, and most people don't even recognize them when they see them. Very seldom a commoner wields any magic power at all. So that little bit of power makes Geron, a teenage orphan raised by the town's huntsman, very special. He would consider it a gift, but his only magic ability is to break little things, so it seems more like a curse. The townsfolk don't even see anything magical about him. They just consider him unlucky and clumsy. But, due to some particularly nasty twist of fate, it's up to Geron to save the whole kingdom and solve a dark mystery that's been brewing right under the king's nose.

The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav delivers a story so full of nostalgia, that it instantly stands out from the contemporary crowd of light-hearted fantasy adventure games. There's little place for puns and sketches here. The world you face is harsh, and the people you meet in it adjusted to it. It doesn't mean, however, that you won't find friendship and warmth on your way. That wouldn't be a good story, if it were so.

Longing for a serious fantasy story with beautiful visuals? Don't wait--get The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav for only $14.99!

K_1269: It's Securom for the version on the GG UK site (change .com to .co.uk).
Aha, how bizarre. Attributable to the difference in publisher, methinks.

Seems like it: Publisher: Daedalic Entertainment DRM:SecuROM vs. Publisher:Deep Silver
DRM:Steamworks.

Either way, nice release GOG!

BadDecissions: My first thought was, "A classic game for $20? People are going to be pissed." But it turns out that when you say "classic" you mean "released this year,"
'classic' as in a Disney 'classic' - a new one every year.
Good to see a DRM-free version turn up here at all. This is something that I didn't expect before, based on what Daedalic said on German forums. But like the others I'm still disappointed by their handling of multi-language licenses. I'm not sure yet if this game interests me enough to support their decision to force Steam even on their German retail customers (boooh!).
What...

Using the Dark Eye license to make an adventure game? I like adventure games, but using the license for one of the most complex paper RPG's to make a point & click adventure.... grehgbrefsgvbjrfesdivjblerfsgubulirswvhbuifrsdliguresdv

It's a bit wider than that, I think. Judging by what I've seen on Amazon.de, there's audio stories and novels, so an adventure game (which is partially what Drakensang turned out to be) isn't that much of a stretch.

No different to what Atari/WotC did with Dungeons & Dragons, really.

jamyskis: I too would prefer to play it in the original German, but still...

On the topic of Steam, wasn't this Steamworks-exclusive until now?
No, it's been available on GamersGate for a couple of months, if I remember correctly.

It's also currently available there on sale for 15.99 Euros, which is a bundle that also includes Deponia, so two games for that price.

Edit: Although I'm not recommending GG purchases to anyone. I stopped buying there a couple of months ago due to various issues.

The whole world setting is extremely complex and well developed. For example, the is a newspaper published monthly(?) that shows developments in the world. The audiobooks and some of the novels are of a very good quality, so making an adventure is an interesting idea.

The game is on my radar since I first saw it. But I really don't like adventure games, so I'm still waiting for a good deal.
Another German adventure (set in THE German RPG-world) without the German language ... No. I won't buy it.
@GoG: you can tell Deep Silver/Koch Media that they are loosing customers because of their restrictive publishing politics.
Does this game feature an evil satellite navigation system?
Wishted. Thanks GOG. Now, I will wait for the weekend promo.
Would be a great birthday gift . * wishlisted *

Phaidox: The Gamersgate version is an exception, though - it uses SecuROM.

jamyskis: Not according to this.
Not anymore. That was a "funny" thing. If you had a german IP Gamersgate and Greenmangaming would offer you the Steamworks Version for 39,99€. With a british IP they would selling the english only Securom Version for half the prize. This stopped some weeks ago and they are offering the Steam Version for everyone to a reasonable prize.
"Hey, this is our most loyal and dependable fanbase, so they will probably put up with everything we do. Let's just treat them worse than all other potential customers, they will love us anyway!"

Seems like a popular business strategy. Telltale and Amanita Design adapted it, too. :P
