Beer beer beer tiddly beer beer beer!

The Bard's Tale, the pinnacle of comedy among computer role playing games, bundled with the classic DOS-era dungeon crawlers: Bard's Tale 1,2,3, is available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $9.99.

In a world, that's in a desperate need of a hero, one man chooses his own destiny. Yup, that sounds about the same as every other role playing game. Only this time, things go a little bit different. The Bard, a roguish vagabond who only cares for coin and cleavage, has no intention to perform acts of unmatchable heroism and prove that he's larger than life. Neither he has desire for fame and glory that would earn him a place in songs and sagas that would fuel the imagination of the generations to come. After all, he can always come up with songs and sagas praising him, while he enjoys a pint of beer and some female companionship at some cozy inn. Yup, whatever he does, he will be remembered as a great champion of the realm. What would you do in such unique position? Loot riches and woo maidens--it's the correct answer, my friend.

The Bard's Tale delivers solid cRPG gameplay, a vast fantasy realm to explore, tons of quests to perform, and hundreds of items to loot. By all means this is a fully-fledged role playing game, but that's not what it's famous for. Brilliant comedy is where this game truly shines among all other titles in this genre. With excellent writing and fantastic voicing done by Cary Elwes (of The Princess Bride fame) as the Bard, and a gaming voiceover veteran, Tony Jay as the Narrator. There's also an extra treat for the die-hard old-school computer RPG fans included with this release: the classic DOS-era hard-as-nails Bard's Tales 1, 2, and 3.

There are many cliche RPGs out there, but this is not one of them. As you embark on this adventure, you have no way to anticipate how will it end. One thing's certain though--there will be plenty of coin and cleavage coming your way if you get The Bard's Tale for only $9.99 on GOG.com!
How is the GOG version on Win 7?

I'm tempted to get it as I never got the 360 version.

Anyone having win 7 problems with the original may find this of interest/help :

Ghildrean: With "classic DOS-era dungeon crawlers" you mean the Apple II version, right? Because that's the versions of 1+2+3 bundled with the new Bard's Tale, not the actual DOS versions.
It doesn't actually say it's the MS-DOS compatible versions, DOS-era could very well mean Apple II (DOS-era references a timeframe, not a specific platform).

Ghorpm: ... look closer: Audio and text: English Text only: French, German, Polish, Russian, Korean...
Ohh, you are right. I was happy about my language version, too.
I absolutely overread this. One could make a line break or something there. Thanks for your hint!

KajQrd: Great release... As a lot of people have noted the old versions are Apple II versions... Just a small correction.
EDIT: Bah, this was supposed to be tacked-on to by previous post, but Nordwolf was fast enough to sneak in between.

DOS-era references a timeframe, not a specific platform. The "era" bit should make that sufficiently clear and doesn't need to be corrected.

Ubivis: wait... no "Oliver Kalkofe" as the Bard??? I was tempted to buy, but now I wait for a good sale.
Yeah, doesn't look like it. Same thing with the Steam version. : /

Ah well, I still have the DVD lying around. Maybe I can frankenstein something with that.

Taking into account that the post I replied to directly (!) is four posts above mine, "fast" is a very relative term... ;-)
Nice, I have a boxed copy but never seen the original games. Time to replace it thanks to GOG. Yay, little by little I'll regain some physical shelving space and become a musician, or is it not that kind of game :)

F4LL0UT: HOLY COW! Fully multilingual and it even includes the friggin' Polish version (which IIRC was NOT part of the regular EU release). Way to go, GOG! Normally I don't care much about this kind of stuff but the Polish version of Bard's Tale is legendary (brilliantly translated, brilliantly voiced and even the songs were redone - awesome!).

Piwo, piwo, piwo, pyszne piwo, piwo, piwo...

Ghorpm: I certainly don't want to rain on your parade but look closer: Audio and text: English Text only: French, German, Polish, Russian, Korean. You have to forget about Szyc and Fronczewski...
GODS DAMN IT!

We're terribly sorry. We've been mislead. This is in fact English audio only version. The mistake was on our part (got a tad to enthusiastic, being fans of the Polish version of the game ourselves) and it's now been corrected both in the newspost and gamecard texts.
got it on Steam for free as a Wasteland 2 backer. definitly going to pay for it now for GOG's sake.

Fantastic!!!!!

With the addition of the original 3 Bard's Tale games, my young adulthood has almost been pieced back together (well, at least a part of it). The newer version is pretty good as well :-)

Thanks, GOG!

There are just a few games that it's hard not to be a fun of the Polish version. It's one of them...

EDIT: any chance to add it later?

KajQrd: Great release... As a lot of people have noted the old versions are Apple II versions... Just a small correction. The Bard's Tale 1 and 2 are Apple II/gs versions. And the Apple II/gs is a computer with capabilities on par roughly with an Amiga. The Bard's Tale 3 sadly is the Apple II version which means it is roughly on par (a little worse I'd say) with the Commodore 64 version... So where I wouldn't want a Dos version of 1 and 2 the 3rd game is really a letdown in the apple II version.
I think only the Apple had it all its versions being bug free. Both the C64, Amiga and DOS versions had problems with bugs in one or more of the games. Especially the Amiga and DOS versions of BT3 suffered. The DOS version of BT3 was recently fixed with an unofficial patch, though.

So if you should play all the three oldest BT games on one system, the Apple would be the best.
