Beer beer beer tiddly beer beer beer!

The Bard's Tale, the pinnacle of comedy among computer role playing games, bundled with the classic DOS-era dungeon crawlers: Bard's Tale 1,2,3, is available for Windows and Mac OS X on GOG.com, for only $9.99.

In a world, that's in a desperate need of a hero, one man chooses his own destiny. Yup, that sounds about the same as every other role playing game. Only this time, things go a little bit different. The Bard, a roguish vagabond who only cares for coin and cleavage, has no intention to perform acts of unmatchable heroism and prove that he's larger than life. Neither he has desire for fame and glory that would earn him a place in songs and sagas that would fuel the imagination of the generations to come. After all, he can always come up with songs and sagas praising him, while he enjoys a pint of beer and some female companionship at some cozy inn. Yup, whatever he does, he will be remembered as a great champion of the realm. What would you do in such unique position? Loot riches and woo maidens--it's the correct answer, my friend.

The Bard's Tale delivers solid cRPG gameplay, a vast fantasy realm to explore, tons of quests to perform, and hundreds of items to loot. By all means this is a fully-fledged role playing game, but that's not what it's famous for. Brilliant comedy is where this game truly shines among all other titles in this genre. With excellent writing and fantastic voicing done by Cary Elwes (of The Princess Bride fame) as the Bard, and a gaming voiceover veteran, Tony Jay as the Narrator. There's also an extra treat for the die-hard old-school computer RPG fans included with this release: the classic DOS-era hard-as-nails Bard's Tales 1, 2, and 3.

There are many cliche RPGs out there, but this is not one of them. As you embark on this adventure, you have no way to anticipate how will it end. One thing's certain though--there will be plenty of coin and cleavage coming your way if you get The Bard's Tale for only $9.99 on GOG.com!
Oh, with inXile Entertainment onboard, that means we could get Wasteland + Wasteland 2, right?

I think it is highly likely that we'll see those games on GOG.
Instabuy!

Why all the hate for the new or old? They are both fun in different styles.

Can I pay extra to get the old games only?

inXile already sayed Wasteland 2 will be released in GOG (the first one is EA's, but it will be bundled with Wasteland 2 copies)

Tsugirai: For some reason, I always thought the old bard's tale trilogy have nothing to do with this new one... Hmm

EmilJ1_74: I think the connection is/was Brian Fargo, the industry veteran who was involved with the original Bard's Tale games as well as games like Wasteland, and who was also the lead designer of the "new" Bard's Tale.
Yeah he explains it all on Matt Chat.
I may eventually buy this (probably when on sale). I've gotten to the point that I'm not buying any additional games unless they really grab me, and the only releases of the new year that has managed to do so thus far was the Avernum pack. NWN 2 looks interesting, but I'd expect it to run horribly on my lappie. Anyway, I gotta chip away at that backlog somehow - though I wouldn't be surprised if there were some games I never got around to playing - which will also allow me to save money. It's not like I haven't spent a ridiculous amount of it on games here already as is.

F4LL0UT: I don't get why on Earth people want to play games in windowed mode. Big pixels won't hurt your eyes - having to read tiny letters on the other hand might. :P

einexile: Windowed mode allows you to double or triple the image exactly for better quality, while fullscreen puts you at the mercy of whatever the ratio is between the original game and your native resolutions.
But remember that if you're doubling or trippling a 320x200 image exactly, you wind up with 16:10 ratio, instead of 4:3 that all the monitors displaying those games would support.

I've always been impressed at how well the DOSBOX openglnb output handles non-integer scaling. Set scaler to "none" and you will be hardpressed to see any artifacting in a 320x200 or 320x240 game scaled to 1080p (well technically to 1440x1080 image with black bars on sides).
Just wondering, is the soundtrack included here the same one that's been available at their website since forever?

And could someone please post the artwork for it? ^^;
I'll probably pick this up at some point, I'd have grabbed it now had I not bought the iPad version a little while back. Pleased to see it here though, esp with the original games (which is the reason I actually bought the version on the iPad)
Wasn't too thrilled with the mechanics, but I'd buy it again here just to get the originals.
This was instabuy and instaplay! And I had very funny evening today :D Thank you very much, GOG!!!

p.s. I hope you will be lucky and you will get rights to add famous Polish dubbing soon!

The community has hyped up Bard's Tale so much that I bought the lot despite my lack of previous experience of the series. So yeah. Good job, I suppose.
now i really screwed - nwn 2 and the bard's tale :( lol
I have stupidly just sat and watched someone play through the game on Youtube, need a while to get that out of my mind so I can enjoy this myself now.
It does look good, seem funny and enjoyable. I will definitely pick this up in time.
