This is what an actual saga looks like.

The Banner Saga, a unique Viking-themed role-playing game with solid tactical combat mechanics, beautiful 2D graphics that look nothing like any other modern title, and a captivating heart-touching story, is now available 10% off DRM-Free on GOG.com, for Windows and Mac OS X. That's only $22.49 for the first week.

The Banner Saga invites you to live through an epic role-playing Viking saga where your strategic choices directly affect your personal journey. Make allies as you travel with your caravan across this stunning yet harsh landscape. Carefully choose those who will help fight a new threat that jeopardizes an entire civilization. Every decision you make in travel, conversation and combat has a meaningful effect on the outcome as your story unfolds. Not everyone will survive, but they will be remembered. The game offers you with a variety of over 25 playable characters from 2 different races, human and varl, the horned giants, and your choices in combat will have consequences for all whomever you choose to lead into battle. With the beautifully hand drawn combat sequences and animations, accompanied by an evocative score from Grammy-nominated composer Austin Wintory, the game will immerse you into a fantasy realm inspired by Norse mythology. Make sure to pick this one up, as there are very few modern games as original and engrossing as this one.

Embark on one of the most awe-inspiring journeys that modern gaming has to offer, and take a plunge into the beautiful snowy landscape of The Banner Saga, for only $22.49 on GOG.com. The 10% off release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, February 12, at 10:59AM GMT.
When you have hundreds upon hundreds of games in your "gaming library" yet to be played it's basically impossible to justify this for an insta buy, but i was for sure close to it! I'll have to wait for a sale like usual. wishlisted.

As a GOG.com's internal guy I probably shouldn't be saying this, but I am really excited with this release and proud we are able to deliver it in 100% DRM-free version. Finally :)

That´s why I love GOG´s employees - you are genuinely excited about your own releases :)

nadenitza: "The shieldbrake saga" ;)

Visually great and good OST but gameplay and story building wise didn't really impress me...
Could you expand upon this a little bit?

What kind of a balance is there between fighting and non-fighting generally? Also, is losing a fight a gameover or do you just continue to make do after defeat?
Woohoo, finally!

mattymuc: That's cool, OST is included in game folder :-)

fronzelneekburm: In the Windows version as well? Can anyone who bought this game on gog confirm this?
I installed the windows version and there's a folder named ost in the game folder.

@GOG: Is there a reason why the soundtrack is not listed in the bonus section but included in the main installer?

A-hah-hah... at last!

Was just browsing the frontpage, thinking to myself "Oh well, guess there's nothing exciting going on at GOG today... Some language packs, a promo... humm, OK."

Took me about half a minute before I finally noticed the banner ( heh ) for the Banner Saga release. Like many, I've been waiting for this release, ever since I heard about the game. Thanks to the developers and GOG for bringing it here.

Oh and, instant-buy, naturally.

trivial game mechanics spoilers ahead

The game is very linear, choice scenarios don't have that much of an impact, at least that's what i felt. You can avoid fights or cause fights depending on what you choose, so in that regard the balance is somewhat in our hands, but generally you would like to fight, couse you will get the most exp that way. If you lose a battle you continue, but you don't gain as much exp. Some battles are a must win tho, dunno witch exactly. So you don't start over when defeated, you get saved often, however, there is a negative aspect getting defeated - you get injured (debuff of sorts), witch the higher the difficulty, takes longer to heal . Although discouraged, you can reload the game from the last save and do the battle again to maximize exp points/minimize casualties, but sometimes you need to do 2 battles in a row witch can be tricky situation.

The reason i said "The shieldbrake saga" is because... well... you will understand ;)

Also chech maggotheart's review at the gog page, sums up some of the things quite a bit and i agree with him.

It's the same with Hotline Miami. The soundtrack isn't listed as bonus content but all the songs are in the game folder in ogg format.

But this makes it the Deluxe Version and that's great!
By the way, I just visited the game's wikipedia page. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Banner_Saga

Please note how it says in the info box "Distribution: Digital distribution including Steam". Since I don't have an account with them (wikipedia that is), would anybody who does mind altering this to read plain "Digital distribution"? Wikipedia should be the last place to be abused by Steam fanboys as a means of free advertisement for their platform of choice.

hedwards: Yeah, I was wondering if there was a significant game incoming.

I was just hoping it would be something more significant, like any of the iD back catalog or perhaps an MS game.
Getting either of those two would definitely constitute a major achievement.

Crosmando: Does this use Unity?
Why do so many indie games use unity? Only cause its free?.
So can anybody tell me if the pre-order exclusive character(Tryggvi) is actually in this version of the game or not?
