A song unlike any other.

The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites, a comedic fantasy adventure with cartoon graphics and peculiar humor, telling the story of a spiritual predecessor of all of the QA specialists in the gaming industry, is available on GOG.com for only $4.99.

Out of all the clients I ever had Reemus stands out like a unicorn in a hog pen. Or, to be more precise, like a hog in a unicorn meadow. Don't get me wrong--he was a swell guy and all, trying to be remembered by the future generations, like we all do. The problem was, that by any account he should have been known as Reemus the Unremarkable. I mean, when you're just a simple bug-catcher it's not easy to catch a break at fame. Especially, if your dragon-slaying brother hogs the spotlight all for himself. Sure, bedbugs bug everyone in the kingdom, while a dragon will only munch on some sheep and an occasional virgin every now and then, but still--slaying one dragon gets you famous, while squishing a billion insects only gets you a pint of mead and a warm dinner. Not fair? That did not stop my friend Reemus, though. He took a chance and got the best minstrell in the kingdom to immortalize his deeds. He got me. Liam the Purple, the most gifted bard of the bearkind. his deeds. Turns out, his deeds weren't as insignificant as anyone thought, and I made damn sure to immortalize the heck out of them.

The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites is a fun adventure game inteligently making use of popular fantasy tropes to tell an unlikely story of a man whose destiny was not to become a hero. With fully voice-acted dialog, nice cartoon graphics, tons of good lighthearted humor, optional side-quests, and many clever puzzles, this little adventure gem is guaranteed to bring a smile on your face. Full MP3 soundtrack included!

Help one motivated bug-catcher to secure the place he deserves in folk legends and the songs sung by the tavern fireplace in The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites, for only $4.99 on GOG.com.

htown1980: Wow. Crosmando wrong again. Who would have thunk it.... :)

Crosmando: GOG usually release 4 games a week actually, two on Tues and Thurs, so they're still slacking.

Also, are you stalking me bro, just waiting for the clock to tick over and if games got released all ready to reply to some flippant comment I made m8?
But, they are no releasing one game a week are they? So you were wrong.

Not stalking you. I see a stupid comment, I make a note of it (as do many others - I note this isn't the first time in recent times you have asked if a gog user is stalking you, when the pointed out other dumb comments from you). You've been making a heap of them lately. You should try to get a job doing it. You'd earn a mint.

Trilarion: But looking at the bottom of the game cataloque I wonder who is responsible for Aqua Kitty? This introduction is so crazy and far-fetched, I really don't know if it is very bad or very good or some sort of satire.

"Due to a sudden shortage of milk, cats around the world are forced to seek out new sources to get their fix. You and your team of milk mining kittens have overcome a fear of water, to drill down under the ocean seabed and begin extracting vast reserves of what seems to be naturally forming full-fat milk. Get ready for fast paced submarine action, defending the kittens from disruptive mechanical sea creatures."

THE MILK MUST FLOW!
To be honest, that crazy introduction sold me the game right away. Thought it must be fun with such a weird story. And it is in fact a solid game. Not epic or groundbreaking by any means, but a good arcade shooter that very much plays and feels like an old Amiga game. I enjoyed playing!

Maybe we can start calling him Enoch.

...For those confused by the joke Enoch according to mythos became Metatron...the Metatron. Tee hee hee, WOO puns for the win!
Other Reemus games can be played for free on Newgrounds. I suggest you play those first before buying this, as they can be completely different from what you expected.
My impressions, based on the IR version I got in a bundle. Not the GOG version.

Although this game is no Monkey Island it is a very enjoyable game with a fun short story and some rather funny moments.
The voice acting is of a good quality, the main two characters especially are played well.
The art all looks hand drawn and is both bright and colourful to watch.
The story might be short, but is still fun and packs a few jokes.
You cannot fail to answer all puzzles as the items needed are always on hand.

There are some downfalls.
The story feels as though this is just chapter one and the entire game could be done in less then 2 hours.
The achievements are pointless, even more so as they do not unlock anything. Not even art in such a well drawn game.
Some humor is very limited.
There are too many hunt the pixel mini games. Although they have nothing to do with the actual game, just the achievements.
The story is enough to hold the entire game together well, but it does have a few shortcomings in leading the game. It feels as though the puzzles were thought out before the story was.

It only took me ~5 hours to complete the game on my first play through including all but two acheivments. It is worth picking up if you like the art style, point and click adventures and a little humor, but this is not for everyone.
I got it in the indie royale bundle back in the fall as well. I found the game to be pretty amusing for a play through, but I finished it in about 2.5 hours with 2 of the achievements. I don't usually like point and click games, but this one was good enough to entertain me for an afternoon; with that being said, it's worth picking up if you want something short to play.
Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Good and bad, it all helps.

It was my first attempt at a commercial game, so I know I have a lot to improve on. For those that bought it, I really appreciate it!

I have to admit, I'm really digging the art style and what little I saw in a let's play make it look even more worth the purchase. I will likely get a copy of The Ballads of Reemus next week when I get Blackguards (I get paid this week).
