A song unlike any other.

The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites, a comedic fantasy adventure with cartoon graphics and peculiar humor, telling the story of a spiritual predecessor of all of the QA specialists in the gaming industry, is available on GOG.com for only $4.99.

Out of all the clients I ever had Reemus stands out like a unicorn in a hog pen. Or, to be more precise, like a hog in a unicorn meadow. Don't get me wrong--he was a swell guy and all, trying to be remembered by the future generations, like we all do. The problem was, that by any account he should have been known as Reemus the Unremarkable. I mean, when you're just a simple bug-catcher it's not easy to catch a break at fame. Especially, if your dragon-slaying brother hogs the spotlight all for himself. Sure, bedbugs bug everyone in the kingdom, while a dragon will only munch on some sheep and an occasional virgin every now and then, but still--slaying one dragon gets you famous, while squishing a billion insects only gets you a pint of mead and a warm dinner. Not fair? That did not stop my friend Reemus, though. He took a chance and got the best minstrell in the kingdom to immortalize his deeds. He got me. Liam the Purple, the most gifted bard of the bearkind. his deeds. Turns out, his deeds weren't as insignificant as anyone thought, and I made damn sure to immortalize the heck out of them.

The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites is a fun adventure game inteligently making use of popular fantasy tropes to tell an unlikely story of a man whose destiny was not to become a hero. With fully voice-acted dialog, nice cartoon graphics, tons of good lighthearted humor, optional side-quests, and many clever puzzles, this little adventure gem is guaranteed to bring a smile on your face. Full MP3 soundtrack included!

Help one motivated bug-catcher to secure the place he deserves in folk legends and the songs sung by the tavern fireplace in The Ballads of Reemus: When the Bed Bites, for only $4.99 on GOG.com.

Niggles: ok......

question. was it classic release or indie release day today?

Kunovski: be it as may, today should be The Banner Saga day :)
Yay I backed banner saga, but never got around to actually making a banner for it, time is not my friend.

This one looks interesting could be amusing, I'll wait until I hear a few more opinions on it.
Yes, it has been part of the Indie Royale Golden Jubilee bundle (which have been offered to people receiving their newsletter). The soundtrack was not included though.

Also, a sequel is in the works, this Kickstarter has reached its goal last october (here).

Erich_Zann: What the hell has file size to do with game length ?
This said, the game description make it sound like nerd humor stuff, i.e. shit. Book of Unwritten Tales was enough of a miracle as it is.

Nicole28: No, no, you are right it doesn't. It's just that, most of the modern adventure games I've bought here or on my wishlist seem to be of a certain size, that I've come to expect that, in accordance with the amount of gameplay.

Emerald City Confidential would be one that fits this bill. Not a short game, but not very long either by any stretch.
Adventure games are rarely very long anyway, modern games even moreso because they're piss easy to boot. File size in these cases come more from bloated graphic & speech data than actual content (that is, content that provide play length). I'd wager that efficiently compressing data is seen as a waste of time with the bandwidth & storage spaces we enjoy now, hence point&click games that ask for 10 gigabytes of hard drive (The Raven).

Look at Dragonsphere, under 100 mb, fully voiced, gorgeous and of decent length. Sins of the Fathers is fully voiced and quite long as well, for about 500 mb if I recall right. And both awesome.

Crosmando: Looks terrible, also GOG is only releasing 1 game a week now?
Its only Tuesday - I'm still expecting a classic release on Thu, something Microprose and, more specifically, Sid Meier related (especially Sid Meier related I mean, as everything Microprose is a BIT Meier related, him being co-founder and all!) as I mentioned in another thread...

Oh, great release. GOG is the best place for adventure gamers!

Kabus: Oh, great release. GOG is the best place for adventure gamers!
It always feels like it always adventures or platformers....well 90% of the time
avatar
GOG.com: ... and many clever puzzles ...
This probably translates to 3-5 kind of repeating average quality puzzles.

Just kidding. Of course I don't know. Have to wait for a review to get a more complete impression.

So GOG is the best place for both, adventures and platformers. :)

Nicole28: The file size is a little tiny for an adventure game. How long is it?
It's very short, IIRC about 2 hours at max. It consists of a few chapters with a couple of screens each and maybe one or two puzzles per screen on average, and then there are some achievements which prolong the gamelength a bit. If I'm not mistaken, it's based on a flash game series, and maybe you could compare it to Samorost 2 or Lilly Looking Through.

Bearing that in mind, it's quite polished and good for what it is though, and I really enjoyed it because it's comparatively easy and entertaining. Not the most spectacular adventure game I've ever played, but IMO more fun than many of the big ones. I can recommend it to fans of the genre, if you're not averse to something humorous and a little more casual.

And it's cheaper here than on Desura (but Desura has a demo you can try).

Add RPG to that sentence, then maybe I would agree with you :>
Wow, I remember playing some flash games about Reemus around '30 years ago'. It's great that this developer is now making full fledged games.
also got this in a bundle... did not like it enough to get it a second time, and it is DRM free in Desura already.

good for those who do not have it, I guess, but it was not exactly one of my GotY games...

Unless I overlooked something in my quick check : three RPGs (Shadowrun, Wasteland and Entomorph) in the last 33 games. Yeah we're flooded alright.
Edit : yeah, forgot Kult if you want it to count it. 4 in 33. To the ark !
