In other words: too damn fast!

Terminal Velocity, a fast-paced interplanetary fighter flight sim straight from the depths of 1990s, is now available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

In a future not that distant, a devastating conflict shatters the terran defences. The humankind manages to survive and their last hope of defeating the invaders lies in the newly constructed fighter craft: the TV-202. This incredible machine has the ability to completely ignore gravity, fly in any possible direction with limitless maneuverability, and to deliver continuous thrust. Not to mention its supreme firepower. The fate of our race lies in the hands of the only pilot brave enough to fly that craft: you.

Terminal Velocity from 3D Realms is often compared to the Descent series, as it features the same concept of free-roaming battle-zones. 3D Realms made sure, however, that their game had an unique feeling to it. With creative landscapes, challenging enemies, hardcore tunnel-stages, and many unique worlds to visit, Terminal Velocity remains one of the most captivating futuristic fighter sims of all times.

If you think you can handle piloting at extreme speeds, while avoiding moving obstacles, and shooting bandits all around the clock--join the air-force! Or, take the safer path and get Terminal Velocity, for only $5.99!

timppu: Now at least the people craving for old game releases should be pleased: two old releases the same day?

As for this particular release (Terminal Velocity)... I seem to recall it was mainly a technology advertisement for the new cheapo 3D accelerators from S3 and such companies. I don't recall it being praised for its gameplay, but then I personally only ever played some demo version of it, I think.

A bit like Incoming, I guess, which also isn't much of a game, but sure looked pretty with all its flashing colors back in the day.
It's more like Descent with massive outdoor environments, as well as crazy indoor tunnels. I can't remember if the outdoors have boundaries, but I remember being able to fly almost anywhere in each level. You can even take to the clouds and fight enemies there. It was fucking revolutionary for its time.

Maybe I'll retry it then at some point. After all, I loved Descent.

(I didn't mean the gameplay is similar to Incoming, but mostly I remember it being a showcase for some 3D accelerators. Unless I am completely mixing it up with some other game from the same era.)

nice couple of almost genuinely old school releases goggy
Like I said in the SW thread, more 3DR games finally!

Now, go convince Epic to release more here.
Welp, installation is complete. Time to play TV.EXE.
Back to the old school .... Thanks for great TWO old games at one day!!!
Thanks for reminding me that this game exists. Now... just get Radix and my dreams will be complete.
Awesome! I played the shit out of the demo back then. I guess that it's time to play the rest.
Wishlisted for now. I do still have this on CD, but it's a Windows version that is a spectacular pain in the ass to get running, and the German dubbing on the intro videos is so atrociously bad, it makes my ears bleed every time I listen to it.
The game I owned like this was Hellbender. I think i also had Descent but I can't remember. Can't wait to play Terminal Velocity.

Btw just to clarify, the controls are somewhat different from Descent. While in Descent you can move in any direction, in TV your ship is always thrust forwards.

How so?
Oh my GOG I have been waiting for this day since you came into business. You have made my YEAR! I missed this game so much I'm almost crying tears of joy you've brought it back. Thank you thank you THANK YOU!!!!

This is the game that broke me from my fantasy fanboyism as a kid and got me interested in science fiction games.

I had the shareware version way back in the 90's and never really got into it, as I always thought it was boring.
