In 2072 a series of tragic events led 3030313 03031313to destruction of TriOptimum Corporation space station Citadel. The only person who could explain what occurred, a hacke03031 3031303131r whose identity remains classified, has fallen off the 303131303130grid after being recovered as sole survivor. According to his testimony collected by the TriOptimum Security, the3131303031303 station's AI known as SHODAN went rogue and wiped Citadel clean of humans. The hacker als130313 130313o mentioned the AI conducting genetic13031 experiments on the crew, proclaiming itself a god, and trying to escape in the jettisoned command bridge, leaving the station to30313 1303 self-destruct. The only time I see the animation start properly is when I reload the page right after it loads. Otherwise I see black pointy moustache disappearing into the bright green field, and then the face arrives. Reverse Cheshire cat, dammit.
Is this a record for the longest thread (in shortest time) for a game launch ever on gog ? :P

drennan: It's a combination of [url= and [url= To simplify: each second, one randomly selected wire in each wire group gets a new CSS class (from Javascript) which makes it perform an animation. Once the animation stops, the class is set back to the original one.
I don't know, it doesn't seem to be quite that straightforward. Cookies seem to play a part, as blocking them prevents the main GOG page animation from loading. I initially managed to get the pulse animation to play by inspecting the element in chrome and copying the code (missing a /div), but that manually instructed the pulses to animate and they did not repeat. I'll keep at this a little longer - seems like an interesting exercise in code studying. Thanks anyway :)

DCT: yeah they did that as part of a unannounced giveaway where the first person to find the hidden message in the description won a free copy of the game.
Aww, must have been one of them tweetybird thingies - I keep missing nice stuff on there :(
I plan to buy this game in the future, but I have some concerns. It seems the GOG version replaces the original 3d models in the game? Is there any way to play the game with the original artwork from the original developers?

I don't think it changes the models, it just fixes errors in the programming to make the game as intended by the developers.

Nothing really has changed it's just that the compatibility patch that was used allows the game to be run with in a Direct X9 render instead of the old Direct X8 render which just makes the game look sharper and runs it faster and obviously helps cut down on issues the game has with modern OS's.

Oic. I looked at the screenshots again closely, and I see the models are the same. Thanks for the confirmation. The GOG version looks very sharp so that kind of threw me off. My bad.

no problem I thought the same thing at first, so don't feel bad.

If you want it to look even better(but in keeping with the original look/fell of the game), you should look into the SS2 sub-forum. There's a thread there with links to mods/patches to make the game even more stable/bug free while also raising the "resolution" of the game's various textures.
I'm going to be so sad when the home page no longer has big render of SHODAN opening her eyes.

Can we please get a user setting to keep it forever? :)

It would be very nice, if GOG could make some simple page e.g. with gog/google search bar and that animated SHODAN background that we can set as startpage in browsers...
Current positions:

38 Ultima® Underworld 1+2
39 System Shock™ 2

That's a good pairing :)
