Ah, I have yet to get tired of seeing SHODAN's eyes opening. Well done, to whoever made that.

TheEnigmaticT: I wish. I was so upset when I heard they cancelled that.

deonast: I never heard of that one. However if you are into the show, maybe just maybe it might be coming to Blu-ray

It could just be a just in case place holder, I hope it is a sign of things to come. Though with my luck they Region lock it to Region A as no one outside of the Americas would watch that show would they. :)

According to my research, SS2 is now the 103rd or 104th best selling game of all time on Gog. Maybe I should try this game sooner rather than later....

Trilarion: Good read but doesn't answer anything about how the rights were secured. It seems Stephen Kick is an enthusiastic fan who contacted Meadowbrook Insurance Group and EA and by a miracle accomplished what GOG or somebody else could not for years. I really don't want to complain but the key to the success remains unknown.

DCT: No EA, according to a repersentive from Meadowbrook in a interveiw they did with Time about SS2 coming to GOG he said that EA no longer has any rights to SS2 as they let it lapse and so Meadowbrook was able to swoop in a re-register the trademarks and copyrights that EA owned the game thus making them sole owners of the IP. This was backed up by a trademark registration they filled on the name System Shock last year.

So with that taken care off I'm sure it just a simpile matter of contacting meadowbrook and working out a deal.
Was EA a problem with getting system shock 2 on here?

Well I'm sure they didn't help since before a year or two ago the rights were split between EA who had the Publishing rights, the rights to the trademark and copyrights for the System Shock name while LGS/Meadowbrook had the rights to the game itself and a few other things,so in order to sell the game you would need to deal with both Medowbrook and EA but when EA lost their share of the rights it just made it easier since now you only had to make a deal with one party.
Now im glad that EA didn't re-register the Publishing rights.
I think it's pretty genious to release Daikatana and System Shock 2 on GOG so close to each other, they are contemporary games - released within 6 months of each other, and both have remained important to the medium over the 13 years since - for very different reasons.
Hoping we'll get to see System Shock 1 soon too, I already own it, but if they manage to release it with the high quality CD soundtrack for the Mac version, I'd buy it instantly.

TheEnigmaticT: System Shock is a three-edged sword.

Ah explains more. It was basically a matter of time to wait until EA ceased the trademark which if I understood it correctly you have to do at some point if you do not use the trademark anymore, which they didn't/couldn't.
Thank you so much for finally bringing System Shock 2! Bought without any hesitation. I've waited so long for this.
