Ghorpm: SS2 is currently #111 in the best selling games list. In lass than 24h. It's just... wow... It's unprecedented! Theme Hospital reached #15 relatively fast after the release but it cannot be even compared...

SLP2000: Planescape Torment and Legend of Grimrock reached higher place in the same time as SS2
I was not around when Planescape got released, but Legend of Grimrock was a game that you could pre-order, so I don't know if it would be fair to compare that with a game that was just released without any option to pre-order it.

Also, at the time of PS:T's & LoG's releases, there were fewer games to compete with, and the top sellers had sold fewer copies

tarasis: My god, you are going to release the cancelled but nearly complete Sierra B5 game aren't you.

:)

TheEnigmaticT: I wish. I was so upset when I heard they cancelled that.
I never heard of that one. However if you are into the show, maybe just maybe it might be coming to Blu-ray

It could just be a just in case place holder, I hope it is a sign of things to come. Though with my luck they Region lock it to Region A as no one outside of the Americas would watch that show would they. :)
Yeah, nice try GoG. I'm not falling for this one. I still remember the closing down stunt.
Should the first System Shock be played before starting SS2?

It was called Babylon 5: Into the Fire, and there's some test/beta footage of it out floating on the web. It was a really slick game, essentially bringing the Freespace/Freespace 2 experience to the B5 universe. While games like The Babylon Project and B5: I've Found Her are somewhat decent, they do little to ease the pain of what might have been.

I seem to remember they were even planning on shooting new footage with actors from the show. ;_;

Well, at least the soundtrack is floating around the web. Small consolation, but it's something at least.

Cool if true though I'd be surprised as they'd need to redo the effects from scratch as I understand it. All of the models and stuff were destroyed/lost so they can't simply re-render for higher resolution needed for blu-ray

The footage had already been shot by all accounts. The music for the game was great, more Franke goodness :) (I have both the couple of tracks that were on musicofb5.com (now sadly gone) and of the longer promo thats floating around.

Just shut up and go play I've found her. It won't allow you to speak all that much anyway, so meh.

The only Babylon 5 game I ever got, I spotted in a game store, still have it on CD "Arcade Series Entertainment Utility: Shadow Wars" when I got it home and played it was really disappointing. The game was simply a space invaders clone with with B5 image in the background. and a few B5 styled ships attacking your star fury. The rest of the pack is a few cursors, low res by today's standard wallpapers and a screen saver. I guess I was gullible, just had to have a B5 game.

Trilarion: So, who is NightDiveStudios? How did the rights end up there?

Stooner: A good read: ;p

Good read but doesn't answer anything about how the rights were secured. It seems Stephen Kick is an enthusiastic fan who contacted Meadowbrook Insurance Group and EA and by a miracle accomplished what GOG or somebody else could not for years. I really don't want to complain but the key to the success remains unknown.

No EA, according to a repersentive from Meadowbrook in a interveiw they did with Time about SS2 coming to GOG he said that EA no longer has any rights to SS2 as they let it lapse and so Meadowbrook was able to swoop in a re-register the trademarks and copyrights that EA owned the game thus making them sole owners of the IP. This was backed up by a trademark registration they filled on the name System Shock last year.

So with that taken care off I'm sure it just a simpile matter of contacting meadowbrook and working out a deal.

JudasIscariot: The German version doesn't show people who are hanging from ropes. There are a couple of them and one is in the Med section.
Thanks for your reply!
The 'censoring' of this game hasn't stopped me playing then, and it wont stop me now...I don't care for some people hangin' around or green(?)blooded enemies ;)

The main reason for me to ask, whether there's a difference, was due to the fact, that the english and german version numbers are different (2.0.0.9 vs 2.0.0.5).

(To me) that looks, as if the english version is more 'up to date' (?).

Version number on installer is a version number of installer (not game itself) :p

Yeah, whenever GoG releases an updated installer for a game, I already own, the number of the installer rises - that's for sure.

But why different numbers on the two installers for SS2? After all, they got released (here) at the same time (and presumably(?)) in the same state.

May be a dumb question, but I'm no techhead, so...I'm just curious.
----------------------------------------------------------

to make it more clear:
why setup_system_shock2_2.0.0.9 and
setup_system_shock2_de_2.0.0.5, instead of
setup_system_shock2_2.0.0.9 and
setup_system_shock_de_2.0.0.9 ?
