A power too great for mortals to harness, a quest too great to pass upon.

Summoner, a brilliant console-style RPG that starts small and unfolds into an amazingly complex and exciting experience that just keeps on giving, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.79 for the first week.

Summoners have toppled empires and challenged gods. They are venerated as saviours and feared as destroyers. With rings crafted by the ancient Khosani, the gifted can call forth demons, dragons, and elementals, but only the strongest can control the forces they unleash. Born with the mark of the Summoner, Joseph possesses a power greater than emperors and gods. As a child, he summoned a demon to save his village, and watched in horror as those he loved were destroyed. Nine years later, the armies of Orenia invade, and Joseph must confront the prophecy he was born to fulfill.

In Summoner, you traverse a beautiful, completely original world spanning two continents. You'll summon up to 16 different creatures, such as minotaurs, golems, dragons, and try to control them in combat. You'll be casting spectacular spells and wield an extensive arsenal of weapons and armor. With the large gameworld to explore, memorable NPCs to meet and befriend, an interesting combat system that adds some extra fun and strategy into battles, and--most importantly--a great story to tell, this 2000 classic game feels a lot like a great jRPGs, but comes in its own anime&grind-free flavor.

Fulfill the prophecy, reach for the ultimate power, and take a shot at vanquishing evil before you become a part of it in Summoner, for only $4.79 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, March 4, at 10:59AM GMT.

JohnnyDollar: How would you rate it among RPGs? I know you're German and I think it was made by a German dev studio. :P

RS1978: Personally I like it, but it's not a real RPG in my eyes, rather sort of an action rpg, perhaps even only an action adventure with slight rpg elements. Of course it can't compete with the great Bioware classics, nor with the original gothic series, but it offers a really beautiful fantasy world to explore. Arcania's main problems were the big expectations, awoken by the unfortunate GOTHIC 4 subtitle, and the economic imbalance of its publisher JoWooD. Spellbound, the developer team, did a very properly work, but the time frame was obviously way too short and the shiny world is sometimes a little bit empty, but I had seldom so much joy in a game only with walking through the landscape. The Addon, Fall of Setariff, brings the story to a conclusion, but it's very, very, very (!) short and I think it was a little bit overprized to release. Anyway, I won't miss it due its significance for the story.
Thanks. Hmm, I'll have to check out some gameplay video if it ever comes here.
Nice release, still have it on PS2 and PC CD, but much prefer to have it in GOG format. A shame the sequel didn't get a PC release, as it is an absolutely fantastic game (even though nothing like this one). But I will be grateful for what we can have, and this is a good addition to the GOG catalogue. CataGOG? GOGalogue? Whatever. :)

ThomNG: As on ArcaniA: let's say it is a hard fight with GOG on some of the older titles especially on some niche ones (and also their current prices)
That's what I suspected, having seen what the Arcania releases cost on ShinyLoot.

Yes, you should definitely do so, due the opinions are divided. And don't forget: Always a matter of taste. But keep in mind: Many of the bad criticisms are only due the misleading Gothic 4 announcement. Arcania isn't a good Gothic 4, but it's a rather good Arcania. ;)
sorry to keep pestering :P

Is all the combat click it and forget it? And yes I asked this in another thread already, so shoot me. :D
Nice release! On the wishlist for now. This is one I missed on the PS2, so this is good news indeed. :)

It has point and click realtime with pause combat. And its combo system is a little bit like the first witcher game.

Well I'm playing it right now and it seems you click on the baddie and then you can take your hand off the mouse. Games like Diablo, Torchlight, and a lot of D&D game require a click for every swing/strike.
I had a lot of fun with Summoner 2 back in the PS2 days, never played this one though. How do they compare ?

ThomNG: As promised Summoner has been summoned (smiling on this GREAT word joke! I am a genious). Have fun with this great new release on GOG.com

Greetings from the Nordic Games office!
Any chance for a Gorky Zero and Cold Zero release ?

Have you tried using chain attacks? They can really prolong your turn in combat.
I remember ads about the PS2 version but I never played it. Maybe I'll check it out this time.
Fun game, but far from brilliant IMO.
Completely original is also a bit far-fetched.. actually that goes for the whole blurb.
Still, good to see it on GOG.
Has anybody posted Summoner Geeks yet?

Hey, it's included as bonus content! ;)

Good addition to GOG.
