A power too great for mortals to harness, a quest too great to pass upon.

Summoner, a brilliant console-style RPG that starts small and unfolds into an amazingly complex and exciting experience that just keeps on giving, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.79 for the first week.

Summoners have toppled empires and challenged gods. They are venerated as saviours and feared as destroyers. With rings crafted by the ancient Khosani, the gifted can call forth demons, dragons, and elementals, but only the strongest can control the forces they unleash. Born with the mark of the Summoner, Joseph possesses a power greater than emperors and gods. As a child, he summoned a demon to save his village, and watched in horror as those he loved were destroyed. Nine years later, the armies of Orenia invade, and Joseph must confront the prophecy he was born to fulfill.

In Summoner, you traverse a beautiful, completely original world spanning two continents. You'll summon up to 16 different creatures, such as minotaurs, golems, dragons, and try to control them in combat. You'll be casting spectacular spells and wield an extensive arsenal of weapons and armor. With the large gameworld to explore, memorable NPCs to meet and befriend, an interesting combat system that adds some extra fun and strategy into battles, and--most importantly--a great story to tell, this 2000 classic game feels a lot like a great jRPGs, but comes in its own anime&grind-free flavor.

Fulfill the prophecy, reach for the ultimate power, and take a shot at vanquishing evil before you become a part of it in Summoner, for only $4.79 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, March 4, at 10:59AM GMT.

WHY are you attacking the darkness? There's nothing to attack!

To celebrate this release, here's a video for you: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaeAzTzU5xo

Aaaand BOUGHT.

This is the first game I ever owned back when PS2 was new., which I basically got at launch. I remember playing it late one night with my friends and we all loved it (though I also got Diablo 2 at the same time and we couldn't decide what game we liked more, as we played them together from the PS2 to the PC). We also had a lot of late night weekend game parties at my house (man those were the days!). Unfortunately, I subsequently sold my copy of Summoner like a fool :(

I can't wait to dive in and play again, seeing I never finished it on PS2!

Also, if Nordic has rights to Summoner now, would there ever be a way to bring the second one to PC after all these years? Or do they not have rights to the second one?

Maybe ThornNG can comment ;)

In any case, THANK YOU Nordic and I can't wait to play the PC version!

JohnnyDollar: Yeah, including Titan Quest Gold and Supreme Commander Gold. And Cold War, and Darksiders, and...

RS1978: ...Arcania. ;)
True.

JFYI, the DRM was patched out of both Titan Quest and Supreme Commander. ;) So unless there's some other issues like regional licensing (GOG's world wide policy) or some such, there shouldn't be a problem bringing those two here. I'm just wondering why it's taking so long.

Edit Correction: I know for a fact it was patched out of Supreme Commander boxed retail, at least the English version. I assume all languages. Titan Quest I'm assuming was patched out because it's listed as DRM-free on GamersGate. They're both old THQ games, and THQ was pretty good about patching out DRM. In fact I don't think the North American boxed retail version of STALKER SoC ever did have any DRM.

gandalf.nho: Looks interesting but hope the use of the term console-like doesn't represent bad PC controls (forced use of gamepad), QTEs and lack of "save anywhere/save anytime" option
No, neither of those - you can play it with keyboard and mouse just fine. Don't know if you could save everywhere but it deffinitely was no save-point system (I think it was everywhere but actually in fights, but am not quite sure anymore myself. ^^) And for the gameplay you can compare it with the first Witcher title.

Click an enemy and the character runs to him and automatically attacks. Within each attack is a short timeframe where you can chain other attacks but you have to keep up a form of rotation between the different types to not disrupt the chain. And you control a party of up to 4 members + 1 summon. And you can pause anytime and even issue commands through the pause.

It was patched out of Arcania as well, but according to Nordic Games, GOG declined it until now. I hope they will change their mind, because TQ Gold and Arcania Gold with German language support were instabuys for me, regardless of regional pricing or not.
high rated
As promised Summoner has been summoned (smiling on this GREAT word joke! I am a genious). Have fun with this great new release on GOG.com

I'm quite sure that the DRM wasn't patched out of TQ Gold, as it still want's to have the CD while playing. (Exception is one of the Fanpatches that came with a No_CD .exe).

Arcania does have a version without Steamworks? Maybe is because this the game isn't in GOG yet

Thanks! Excellent release. I'll buy this as soon as I'm at a computer. However, this is one game that really should include the soundtrack.

No, Arcania was never a steamworks title. And according to our appreciated ThomNG, Nordic Games offered Arcania a couple of times to GOG, but they rejected it. Hear ye, GOG? Here's a potential Arcania buyer!

Hum, I asked because at the release I remember other stores saying about Steam being necessary
