A power too great for mortals to harness, a quest too great to pass upon.

Summoner, a brilliant console-style RPG that starts small and unfolds into an amazingly complex and exciting experience that just keeps on giving, is available 20% off on GOG.com. That's only $4.79 for the first week.

Summoners have toppled empires and challenged gods. They are venerated as saviours and feared as destroyers. With rings crafted by the ancient Khosani, the gifted can call forth demons, dragons, and elementals, but only the strongest can control the forces they unleash. Born with the mark of the Summoner, Joseph possesses a power greater than emperors and gods. As a child, he summoned a demon to save his village, and watched in horror as those he loved were destroyed. Nine years later, the armies of Orenia invade, and Joseph must confront the prophecy he was born to fulfill.

In Summoner, you traverse a beautiful, completely original world spanning two continents. You'll summon up to 16 different creatures, such as minotaurs, golems, dragons, and try to control them in combat. You'll be casting spectacular spells and wield an extensive arsenal of weapons and armor. With the large gameworld to explore, memorable NPCs to meet and befriend, an interesting combat system that adds some extra fun and strategy into battles, and--most importantly--a great story to tell, this 2000 classic game feels a lot like a great jRPGs, but comes in its own anime&grind-free flavor.

Fulfill the prophecy, reach for the ultimate power, and take a shot at vanquishing evil before you become a part of it in Summoner, for only $4.79 on GOG.com. The 20% off special release discount offer lasts until Tuesday, March 4, at 10:59AM GMT.
Oooo, awesome addition. This is one I wasn't able to get the first time around. :D

rtcvb32: I've got Summoner 2 on PS2, and honestly I couldn't figure out what I was suppose to do. More distracting was some cut-scenes had mouths that moved and some that didn't making it feel unfinished and unprofessional. Not sure about the first game...

Hmmm I'll probably get this later, but no promises on it.
I love Summoner 2, but it's very different than this Summoner. It's almost like one of those films where someone wrote an original story, and the studio decided they'd claim it was a sequel to a known property to get more buyers. Don't let your impression of either game influence the other, they are quite distinct experiences.

Piranjade: *stares*
I was somehow completely sure that this game was on GOG already... Strange...
Maybe you are thinking about Soulbringer. As both games were released more or less at the same time, both were rpg/arcade hybrids and both were less successful than they deserved, people confuses them. We confuse them.

Same here. Some mouths move, some not. This is not because of an unfinished game, it's a feature. ;-)

This might scratch the RPG itch that Eschalon 3 made even stronger.

Edit: This is what I get for tablet using. Forgot that I already posted on this thread.

RawSteelUT: <sarcasm>
Butbutbut GOG has abandoned the classicz!
</sarcasm>

Nice to see another great title show up here! The PS2 one was a bit of a slog due to framerate issues, might try it here...

tfishell: Geez, when was the last time somebody actually complained about that, lol.
It's being thrown around quite wildly on the regional pricing thread, and it's as ridiculous as you can get.

avatar
RawSteelUT: Oh GOD, I can't even begin to imagine how this game would have run on the PS1. 0_0
avatar
lugum: If it would run like discworld noir, terrible.
Heh, yeah... framerates in the latter PS1 games were getting to be an issue.... I'm imagining seconds per frame.
Nice release. Good job, GOG!

tinyE: A) my basement is flooding
B) my dog just shit all over my bed
C) I'm trying to figure out if I can remap the camera controls for the keyboard

Once I've gotten through A,B, and C, I assure you I will move onto D) playing the damn thing.

JMich: Move your bed to your basement, thus using the flood to clean the mess your dog made. That's A and B sorted.
...

You're the guy who comes up with the puzzles for old Text Adventure games, aren't you?

newtrality: I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in splendor and were suddenly without $4.79. I fear something wondrous has happened.

*Edit*

In hindsight I should have waited and used this for a Star Wars release >_>
Well, technically you still can since no such game has arrived here yet, and at the current rate most of us that have seen your post will have forgotten all about it by then so it will seem original all over again. :-)

Niggles: Remember the name, but the box art was different... (bad memory)
Maybe you were remembering the sequel's box art? When I first saw this I thought it was the same game as I have on the GC, but the box art was completely different. I realized the game I have is Summoner 2 - which I enjoyed.
Really good release. Summoner was one of the first games I had on the PS2 and I loved it. Wishlisted for now.
Summoner...i only remember that i have it for the PS2 but never played it after i read the not very
reviews about it....well maybe i'll give it a try on the PC.

how long does it take to finish?

thanks!
Damn, I forgot this game existed. I had the PS2 version of the game used, but it would freeze up constantly on this one boss (disc wasn't in very good condition due to being used). Eventually, I just had to give up on it. I loved the game aside from that, although that might just be nostalgia. Definitely going to nab this here.
Nice, I loved his game back on the ps2, any chance of us getting Summoner 2 as well?
