Beating back some balance into the world.

Sudeki, a vibrant anime-ish action-RPG with exciting real-time battles and a robust character development system, is available on GOG.com for only $5.99.

Sudeki, a world torn apart into light, shadow and dark. Rent asunder by deceit and betrayal, the land cries out for a peace that only four united heroes can bring. Beyond the protective walls of Illumina Castle lie miles of pastoral, rolling countryside, though once a serene landscape, the Aklorian forces have transformed the countryside into a charred battlefield. Simply passing through the region is unsafe, as travellers must be ever alert for ambushes. Four friends have joined together to aid their queen. Though destined to encounter ancient gods, primordial wonders, and marvellous inventions, foes and betrayal haunt their every step. A keen eye could prove vital, exposing essential clues. And as the companions make their way through darkness and light, they’ll discover that those two extremes have more in common than they once imagined… With real-time, bone-crunching combat with incredible spells and combos, the ability to control any one of the four champions at any time, and skip between them at will, and the power to customize each character's armor, weapons, and spells and evolve new powerful attacks, this colorful action-RPG title is a real blast to play!

When Europeans experiment with the anime aesthetics interesting things happen, and Sudeki is a perfect example of that rule. Check it out, for only $5.99 on GOG.com.

Fenixp: Number is a finite, precise value. It should never be possible to interpret a numeric value differently in different parts of the world. ... Of course, when it comes to review ratings, 8 in one review means something entirely different than 8 in another. Now mix into that the fact that you can't put subjective feelings into a number, as your subjective feelings will mean something different entirely to a different person. So basically, the number itself means something else in different parts of the world and it means something else to every single person giving it out.

Yup, numeric ratings are so fucking useful :-P
1 is bad, 10 is excellent, 5 is minimum of acceptability. More than five is some kind of recommendation, less than 5 is some kind of warining. What's to get? A 5 star system is even simpler. Great, good, fine, bad, awful. You have to try to misinterpret it.
If subjectivity and vagueness offend you Then you may as well do away with the words good and bad. As they too seem to be precise but are infact subjective. You might not be able to but subjective feelings into numbers but I can.
Words are relative to space. So are numbers. But numbers have the advantage of brevity but can also imply shades of grey in in a person's thinking.
And considering how many critics, professional and amateur, seem incapable of giving a strong indicator as to whether something is good or not without them maybe it's good to have them.
Anybody knows how to get rid off the game updated sign in my account menu. I already checked what it was updated and erased cookies and history but its still there - its really annoying.

Edit: Its gone now after 1 hour sitting there.

Fenixp: ... and that's why rating systems don't work. "Nothing special or groundbreaking. You know, it's fine. 80%."

phaolo: LOL! I like user ratings in theory, but many people can't really vote properly.
There should be some description next to the rating to help them choose.
Just for a fast example:
0-2/10 (unavailable)
3/10 one of the worst games ever made
4/10 major flaws and boring, avoid
5/10 some important issues, not much recommended
6/10 you could try it, but it's just average, nothing special
7/10 good but with some small problems, you can safely play it
8/10 great title without big flaws, recommended!
9/10 a masterpiece, few games reach this quality!
10/10 (unavailable)
Frankly, I prefer the five point system, especially when one looks at how the ten point system is totally skewed these days, so much so that there is really no point to it.

I kind of like the Netflix system (of all things) which is kind of comparable to GOG's own, with the problem yet again being that people too easily give five stars for works that don't necessarily deserve them - I don't even have to use both of my hands to count how many GOG games I'd actually give the full five star treatment; they really must be exceptional to me for that to happen (plenty of four stars with an even greater number of threes though) - or conversely one star for those that just didn't measure up to their standards. Anyway:

1 - Hated it. Heavily flawed and all around a bad game.
2 - Didn't like it. It may have some merits, but the game's execution still leaves something to be desired. Would not recommend.
3 - Liked it. This game is not very memorable and doesn't bring anything special to the table, but it was an enjoyable enough romp for me to see it through to the end despite some of its flaws.
4 - Really liked it. Good fun. Would recommend. Not perfect, but without any real issues that would detract from the experience.
5 - Loved it. Fucking great, man! Exceptional work. Don't mind me if I play it again. ;)

cmdr_flashheart: Hah!

Here's some gameplay for those interested. I don't know what to make of it, I can't even mad.

This is just the tutorial for fighting. This is not representative of what the game is. It is pretty good, with various environment...

Nothing new. The system has been glitchy like that for months now.

Yeah, I know sometimes I have to login twice in to the account before it registers that I am there :)
Looks like a good RPG. :)
Hello old friend! Great to see this up on gog.

Good to know there's another option if my disc goes belly up :)

Frontal assault indeed: http://i.imgur.com/Ze0KMqj.jpg

hunvagy: Edit: Can we have the PC version of Grandia 2 instead? :p
Not sure about the "instead" (wishlisted Sudeki), but I'm waiting for the PC version of Grandia II as well. I would pause every game I'm currently playing if GOG would release Grandia II. Vote for it!

Um. Wow. They really went with that box-art? *facepalm* Makes me think of all the ridiculous '90s game ads.
Does it come with the patch that Steam released 4 days after its own release of this game? PATCH INFO
- Crash whilst saving in certain locations
That worries me.

Anyway, I'm also getting a Jade Empire vibe from this game but wishlisting it for now.

I was going to say that fighting is part of the game, but I see what you mean. The video does go into non-tutorial gameplay at the end, though. And yes, it looks nice enough.

5 stars is too much unprecise for my likings, but I think that users should be able to choose their preferred system (5 as default, advanced 10 or even 100).
Also, 5 stars ratings often end up in the "half star" scale, which is basically equal to a 10 stars system!

This discussion is interesting for me, we should open a separate thread in the future about this (it's quite OT here).

Not even *close* to the advert for Battle Cruiser 3000AD

Seems a bit odd mind you that for the screenshot preview for Sudeki they mostly put interface and menus :\

Particularly given just how bright and colourful it can be, especially when playing in first person view with Ailish or Elco.

Couple of shots to show first person view and a bit more colour:

Oh, for users it's more than enough. Hell, it probably be even enough for game "journalists" these days seeing how the whole 4-7 range seems to be typically unused. =P Anyway, the reason why I like the Netflix system is because of all the hundreds upon hundreds of movies and tv shows I've rated there their recommendation system has pretty much become spot-on on what I would or would not enjoy. There are still a few exceptions of course, but it's definitely the best system of its kind I've come upon.
