Like to get medieval on your foes? Now you can do it in HD!

Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD, two memorable medieval RTS games simulating pre-firearm warfare, newly upgraded with High Definition graphics, are now available on GOG.com, 20% off! That's only $4.79 for Stronghold HD and $7.99 for Stronghold Crusader HD, until Thursday, November 7, at 10:59 AM GMT.

Stronghold, a 2001 real time strategy game, with managerial and simulation elements, was welcomed enthusiastically both by the gamers and the media. It presented an opportunity to become a medieval warlord in charge of a small army, a piece of land, and high ambitions. Up to this day, the game supports quite a large community of fans creating new maps and modifications, that boost the playtime indefinitely. Stronghold Crusader graced the PCs of strategy fans in 2002. It took the multi-layered gameplay of its predecessor and placed it in the setting of the Middle East in the time of Crusades. With great range of things the player had to take care of--including establishing a sustainable economy, erecting a keep and defending it from enemy raids, and finally conquering neighbouring estates--both games presented a worthwhile challenge to strategy fans.

Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD are the High Definition editions of these two "castle sim" classics. Adjusted to modern displays they allow for much better control of the playfield and deliver awe-inspiring view of life-like medieval landscape. The HD versions will replace the classic editions (Stronghold Crusader HD is also upgraded to the "Extreme" version) and if you already own one or both of them, you now get a free update! If, for whatever reason, you prefer the classic Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader, you can still download them from your shelf. If you didn't have the pleasure to get acquainted with the series, you have no more excuse not to do so, as we offer you each game with a 20% discount!

Did you ever wanted to be adressed as "Sire"? Here's your chance to become a medieval lord! Grab Stronghold HD for only $4.79 and Stronghold Crusader HD for only $7.99.

Before you rush off to get those strategy classics, or if you're already back after buying them, take a moment to listen to the games' developer!
GOG... I love you SO MUCH!

jimbob0i0: hmm that's odd - my shelf didn't have an 'updated games' flag on it ...
We got you a nice, descriptive news post about the upgrade instead :D
Options = Good.

Very good.

Btw, can we have an estimate on when the installers will be updated to version 2.x.x.x so we can start updating gogwiki with the new information?
Edit: I mean for all the games, not only Stronghold(s)
Or better yet, can you convince your coders to give us the needed API to have gogwiki pull the needed information directly from gog servers?

Not sure when since the programmers' cabal is dark and mysterious in its ways. Asking them for their secrets is liable to get one killed :D

As for the API, I would recommend you send off an email via the Contact form about that and it should get passed on to the right people.

Right now, it looks like they're doing Interplay titles. My guess is they'll do it by publisher maybe.

I know, and whenever I had the "Updated" flag I would download and update the info as well. Currently though, since quite a few seem to have been updated, with no notification, I think it would be better to just redownload everything and work on hashes again. Will probably do that on January though, since it will require quite some time.
Now to find what equipment is needed to enter and question a cabal...
Already own both games . Thank you for the free update GOG .
Is this just giving the game more graphics resolutions options?

" The new package includes the original Stronghold and Stronghold HD, which supports higher resolutions and the new HD battlefield view, which allows you to view the entire map. "

" Stronghold Crusader HD comes packaged with content from both the Stronghold Warchest and Stronghold Crusader Extreme, including an increased unit cap of 10,000, new missions and special Tactical Powers."

from what I see this is basically upgrading the resolution for both games as well as adding the additional content from the "Extreme" version for Crusader
Can only afford to get one.. Which one to buy.. I do not know... Choices choices...
I haven't bought any new releases on gog lately but why did they change the default path for games.

why wont it let me install to C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG.com\Stronghold HD

it complains about characters ( ) .

Seems like a weird thing to change can use C:\progra~2\GOG.com\Stronghold HD to get past the () but I'd have to create a symbolic link to get past the . i guess.

Its not really much to complain about but I prefer it to all be in one place: )

other people might disagree with me on this one but...

I always start from the first game in the series, I would advise you to do the same
