Like to get medieval on your foes? Now you can do it in HD!

Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD, two memorable medieval RTS games simulating pre-firearm warfare, newly upgraded with High Definition graphics, are now available on GOG.com, 20% off! That's only $4.79 for Stronghold HD and $7.99 for Stronghold Crusader HD, until Thursday, November 7, at 10:59 AM GMT.

Stronghold, a 2001 real time strategy game, with managerial and simulation elements, was welcomed enthusiastically both by the gamers and the media. It presented an opportunity to become a medieval warlord in charge of a small army, a piece of land, and high ambitions. Up to this day, the game supports quite a large community of fans creating new maps and modifications, that boost the playtime indefinitely. Stronghold Crusader graced the PCs of strategy fans in 2002. It took the multi-layered gameplay of its predecessor and placed it in the setting of the Middle East in the time of Crusades. With great range of things the player had to take care of--including establishing a sustainable economy, erecting a keep and defending it from enemy raids, and finally conquering neighbouring estates--both games presented a worthwhile challenge to strategy fans.

Stronghold HD and Stronghold Crusader HD are the High Definition editions of these two "castle sim" classics. Adjusted to modern displays they allow for much better control of the playfield and deliver awe-inspiring view of life-like medieval landscape. The HD versions will replace the classic editions (Stronghold Crusader HD is also upgraded to the "Extreme" version) and if you already own one or both of them, you now get a free update! If, for whatever reason, you prefer the classic Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader, you can still download them from your shelf. If you didn't have the pleasure to get acquainted with the series, you have no more excuse not to do so, as we offer you each game with a 20% discount!

Did you ever wanted to be adressed as "Sire"? Here's your chance to become a medieval lord! Grab Stronghold HD for only $4.79 and Stronghold Crusader HD for only $7.99.

Before you rush off to get those strategy classics, or if you're already back after buying them, take a moment to listen to the games' developer!

Thanks for the free upgrades, although I find HD upgrades on 2d sprite games like this a joke (they just make the units get increasingly smaller and more of the map visible.)

Is this seriously counting as todays new release though? If so that's really poor.
GOG, "Stronghold Crusader HD" is not marked as compatible with Windows 7 on its game card. Is this correct?
*grumble* *grumble* stupid HD remakes, now I have to buy those games again *grumble*... Free Update!? Thank you!
I'm still only seeing one download link on my Stronghold page (for a 615MB file). Should I assume Stronghold HD hasn't been added to the page yet?

Well, there's also the addition of Crusader Extreme, so it's not "only" a graphic update.

Installer version is 2.0.0.x so I'd say it's the updated one.

Other way around: it is Stronghold HD and you don't have the classic option ;) Look at the installer version

Ninja'd again... I'm really slow today ;)

Thank you. Even if the HD versions might be superior in every feasible way, I still like retaining the option of playing the original as well, just in case. I did that already back when Sierra re-released "VGA HD" versions of their earlier adventures, like Space Quest 1, Quest for Glory 1 etc.

I also like playing some of the classics vanilla, without any graphics upgrade mods, the first time. Like System Shock 2, Descent Freespace, Morrowind, Baldur's Gate etc. Then maybe try out the mods later.

Nothing like the recent "Doom 3 BFG Edition" mess...

Roman5: Thank you very much for making this release a free upgrade to the people who already owned Stronghold and Crusader, many thanks to GOG and FireFly

Updates like this really bring a new breath of life into a game and really add value to it, I hope this continues with other games in the future
^ This! Yes, Thank You very much!
Cool, there are even language packs for the original Stronghold. I wonder if there will also be language packs for Stronghold Crusader.
if you already own one or both of them, you now get a free update!

That's why we just love GOG.com...

Btw, Stronghold and Stronghold Crusader where the first games I bought here, back in April 2009 (probably in a weekend promotion).

That was my biggest complaint with Stronghold, I could see barely anything because of the graphics. I had the same issue with War Craft, where the units and buildings were so large that I couldn't see what was going on elsewhere. In both cases the sequel remedied the issue.
Thanks for the free updates for 2 great games.
This is kinda letdown

Also, I loved Stronghold and I still do, but never find fun with Crusader... it was just skirmish.
