wedge2566: Just bought XWing SE.

I have an xbox 360 wired controller- The left Thumbstick works fine for pitch and yaw, but the Right Thumbstick does not work and I cant roll the XWing to the left or right.

Any suggestions?

Kondorr: Press Y and use the left stick
Thanks!

Is there a way to "re-map" these controls? I was thinking about downloading the Joy to Key program if there are key board commands for each action.

It is B, not Y... B hides the cockpit... and the 1998 Version supports more buttons... but I think I stay with 1993 and use keyboard and X-controller

The gamecard doesn't say so atm.

Side note : you might want to contact a blue for your '.203' appendix.

Mandz: ...I know someone made an edited version of DOSBox to allow setting of deadzones, but mine had to be set so high that it made pinpoint targeting very difficult. I wish there was a decent solution.
If it's the one that's floating around the GOG WC subforum then it's the version of DOSbox available here:

http://www.davidwaltersdevelopment.com/tools/dosbox/

Joystick jitter while non-neutral isn't a deadzone issue, it's something you would associate with a faulty joystick, shaky hands, or high sensitivity.

The calibration tool in your OS should show if it's jittering when non-neutral, and might allow you to decrease the sensitivity. If you do decide to decrease sensitivity then make sure to recalibrate your deadzone (it SHOULD get smaller). If decreased sensitivity doesn't work then the best you can hope for is repair/replacement from your retailer.

Good luck!
I just found a list of all the Key Board Commands at All Game dot com. (for some reason I cant post a link).

For the XBox 360 controller I think I can make this work mapping the main controls by using the Joy To Key program.

My main issue is being able to utilize the Right Thumb stick to use as Rolling the X-Wing on it's axis L/R.

Apparently the Keyboard/Mouse controls to rolling are:

Right mouse button + moving the mouse right/left

If only I can map the Right Thumbstick as the Mouse and use a macro to emulate pressing the Right mouse button using the Joy to Key program.
ATTENTION!!

Okay I am an idiot. How do I advance to the next mission? I've completed the first one 3 times now and it is a success but takes me back to the briefing for the first one again and I have no credit for completing it.

Note: I turned unlimited ammo on, not sure if that is causing a problem.
Question:

since these games are DRM free, does that mean that it will be ok for modders to use the codes to provide better graphics and more missions (egthe XWA Upgrade project that seems to be stalled) If so, would talking about these things be ok on this site, or is it a no-no?

I'm not entirely sure what you mean. To my knowledge, LA never released the source code to either X-Wing or TiE Fighter. If you're talking about one modder buying a copy from GOG, and then sharing it with their buddies (or other members of their modding team) then that's a definite no-no.

It might be a grey area but as long as each person buys their own copy of the game I don't see it as a problem. (IE, you can only play the game if you own a legal copy, but can add mods to your legal copy)

No,

What I'm talking about is can the game be modified (like skins/textures/lighting etc) to display modern geometry? While I know that it is possible, and has been done with XwA. So each person purchases their own copy, and then modifies it with the addons that they want. I don't think its a problem, but I'd love to see a resurgence of this game.

Holy shit that's alot of content for those games (Especially TIE Fighter), I do wonder if i'll be able to get anywhere with X-Wing's difficulty, I hate escort missions and i'm not really that good at flying fighter games, really hope what he heard about the 98 version of X-Wing being a little easier is true.
I'll have to wait next week to buy these games (X-Wing and Tie-Fighter), I just hope I'll get farther than the first times I tried them: I was never able to finish the training missions. As far as I can remember one can jump in the campaign anyway but that feels like cheating.

Completely agree :D
After not being able to finish the training I went for the main game anyway, but back then I did not get far... to some mission with escorting a corvette I believe...
This game broadened my tolerance level for ingame failure :D

Yes, I concur. In my, expert, medical opinion you should have your appendix removed immediately.
