Shadow of Chernobyl + Clear Sky + Call of Pripyat up to 70% off!

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat, the phenomenally immersive FPS survival horror series set in the terrifyingly believable radioactive "Zone" surrounding the explosion site of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, is available up to 70% off on GOG.com. That's only $14.97 for the set of three for the next 72 hours.

Not many people truly understand what it means to be a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. We're Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers. Basically, what each of us is, is a bit of a soldier, a bit of a thief, a bit of a hunter, a bit of a nutjob, and a full-time basterd. Imagine what's happening in our heads. The Zone is calling for us ahead, new locations and unknown threats, spatial holes and monsters hiding in the fog, pitch-black nights and saving rays of a rising sun. You try to avoid anomalies and hide from blowouts, discover the Zone and collect artifacts, cure radioactive irradiation and fight for any stalker faction you like! This is the life, right? If only it didn't end so promptly, ever so often.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series delivers one of the most immersive and enthralling experiences in the history of first-person shooters. Calling it a "shooter", however, might be a bit of a stretch. The games' focus leans mostly towards exploration and stealth. In most cases, it's best to avoid encounters rather than face the dangers head-on. The Chernobyl exclusion zone is full of things that could kill you in an eyeblink. Strange creatures, physics-defying phenomena, not to mention the other men bold or insane enough to venture into the heart of eastern-european Twilight Zone. The competition is ruthless, as the prizes are great--the fascinating artifacts found in the forbidden land yield unbelievable prizes on the black market. If you think you have what it takes to become one of the fabled S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s, the whole story of the Chernobyl Zone opens before you: the original Shadow of Chernobyl, the prequel Clear Sky, and the sequel Call of Pripyat. All three games come with high-quality soundtracks encoded in lossless FLAC format.

For the next 72 hours, that is until Sunday, February 9, at 10:59 GMT, you can get the entire S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series 70% off, that is for only $14.97. Separately, the games come with 50% off discount for that time.

EDIT:
Now, that the release special offer has expired, the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games are priced at $19.99, $9.99, and $19.99 for Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, and Call of Pripyat respectively. A permanent 20% off series discount still applies, if you get all three at the same time.
Shit!

Damn it GOG, why did you have to do this when I don't have a job!?!?!

I mean, its not like I don't already have all of them; but I love the series and would love to buy extra DRM free copies to support GSC. I am glad to see that the entire catalog of STALKER titles back under GSC's banner instead of each one having a different publisher.

Hopefully this is a sign that things are getting back on track for the franchise; Metro is a good series of games, but I like open worlds more than linear progression and have been fiending for a new entry in the series.

Reever: So, I liked the book they were based on. But I suck at shooters. But I hear the atmosphere (and the story?) are good. So, could I get through the fights (with lower difficulty, mods?) and still enjoy the game, or rather not?

DoctorPirx: I think you can. I for my part totally suck at FPS (and therefore don't like them), but I completed STALKER several times with great pleasure. First of all, it's not so much about shooting wildly (which I'm pretty bad at) but more about thinking before acting. There are some areas where you need to shoot your way through - and the endgame is pretty hard - but for those instances you can easily lower the difficulty.
Mods aren't even necessary for adjusting the difficulty: You can easily text-edit the games .ltx files to determine how much damage you suffer from the various damage types. The necessary changes are documented, try googling stalker, ltx, difficulty/damage or something similar.
Cool, thanks for the reply! I think I will buy them then, it's a good deal anyway for three games =)

skeletonbow: Here is some coverage from someone who took the Chernobyl tour in 2010 from Phoronix:

Thanks for the link, you can really appreciate now how much work the devs put into making what is essentially a replica of the entire city

Ormenelle: snip
Awesome post. Nice comparison, and thanks for the mod and book info/links. +1

Yeah, I look forward to playing this game series sometime in the future. Going to have to hold off for a future sale though, hopefully they'll show up in the Summer or Winter sales later this year.
Bought.

"Such is life in the zone."

You're welcome. :)

tburger: A thousand times this - polish localization of Stalker games was unique not just because it was voiced-over (instad of full-dub or subtitles) but mainly because it was done by one of those old-generation readers: Mirosław Utta man with exceptional skills... Have you seen movie: Zawód Lektor? Man, those guys are...great!
But truth to be told I don't think anyone except Poles would appreciate it.
Definitely, it was a great choice; he's a master of his craft and also fits perfectly with the source material, gave the game this faux-authentic vibe. Kudos to whoever at CDP came up with the idea (I don't think any other game had been localized this way before?).

No kudos if this was supposed to be this weeks classic release though ;P

Merchito: Old and experienced gamer, but quite ignorant about FPS...
So the question is : Is this series better than Half-Life 2? Same type?
avatar
Telika: Immensely better. Not same type. Free-roaming open world with mild RPG-ish elements. Gritty realist-ish atmosphere (okay, vodka heals you from radiation, it's not exactly how it is in real life but it if HOW IT SHOULD). World is absolutely not player-centered, NPC drama keeps happening away from you.
Thanks a lot for your answer. :)
How much actual "survival" is in the STALKER games? Do you have to eat/drink/sleep for example?

In vanilla STALKER eating helps to restore health while drinking (vodka) clears away radiation and sobriety :D

AFAIK, you don't HAVE to eat or drink but it's fun :D

They took out most of the hunger system, but I believe (or at least it's restored with every gameplay changing mod) you'll still get hungry every now and then, which will require you to eat something.

But yes vodka helps with radiation!

Vodka helps with everything.

Would you believe I posted the code for the entire series over 7 hours ago and it's not taken???

Well, it's true.

JudasIscariot: There is a setup program in the Start menu where you can change the language of the game :)
Someone beat you to it :P

I'm kind of curious what's the point of all the different installers though, if I can just change the language in the setup menu.

Eating and sleeping not. Drinking also not in the first place, but if you run alot then after a time you get tired. By drinking those energy drinks you ain't tired anymore. And by drinking vodka you get rid of radiation, small one that is.
But you better bring some food with you, as it helps restore your health if you fetched some bullets or were attacked by mutants.

I have all 3 on disc myself. So far i've played Shadow of Chernobyl. Without any mods. Since the complete mod is mainly graphic improvement and thus also an increase in FPS i won't use it. I don't have a top of the bill system.
